BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

It crosses a footpath. Health and safety :(

Just done that BRAS checker:

This is a 21CN line.
The current Downstream BRAS rate is: 77.44 Mbps
The current Upstream BRAS rate is: 20 Mbps

unlock your modem, would be nice to see your stats.

New cabinets have been in around here for a while now, BT Engineers have been running cables into them all week.

Yet the Wholesale checker is quoting December 2013 for activation :(

Move to a package without shaping.

I don't quiet understand. Can you elaborate a little? I'm a noob at this stuff. :(

edit: I'm on the infinity 2 package. Shaping shouldn't apply to this?

When did you join?
Which package is listed under the My BT section of BT's website?

This is mine...

And I don't have any shaping on any downloads, at any time of the day or night! :)

All I did was confirm the 50Gb of BT Cloud storage, which re-newed my contract (I'd only been with BT for 3 weeks, so it didn't hurt too much) and I went from the old shaped 'BT Infinity Option 2', to 'Unlimited Broadband with Infinity Option 2'

Is there a contact number for enquiring about local deployment? I've tried BT generally before and it's not been much help.

I live in a new development in an area that is covered by BT fibre boxes except in the actual development...not sure why they didn't just install it when they laid the lines but hey ho. Been in here nearly a year now, everywhere around me (including across the road) can get fibre and wondering if we've been forgotten about :(

Send an email to [email protected] and ask them what their plans are for your cabinet/area.

Just an update, I complained to BT during my install that the engineer never fixed the line fault before leaving my broadband install. Someone called me Tuesday to take notes and empathise.

Anyway, today was the day that was booked for an engineer to fix the fault. For the first time in as long as I can remember the engineer called at 7:30am! This was a godsend as I was able to show him the setup before leaving for work.

So, after finding a bad connection at the cabinet, and a "bare wire that had corroded" on the pole, we're back up and running (I'd turned off the vDSL modem while the line was buggering about as it was dropping sync).

This was the speedtest before..

Here's the speedtest after and the line stats.. Not sure on the length of the line to the cabinet, but by the road it's easily 700m.

I suspect I'm still on a similar BRAS profile, although I can't prove it as the BT Wholesale site is buggering about. Providing it stays stable, I'll take a 5Mb increase :) Anyone know how to use those Echolife graph plotting tools? I can telnet in to the modem and get the results, so it shouldn't be too difficult but the way the wikis are written are retarded.

Anybody know if BT infinity checker is accurate? as thinking of jumping ship due to BE being bought by SKY and was leaning towards BT infinity.
I entered my phone # with BT infinity checker and it says its not available in my area or phone # yet but Samknow says BT fttc is available, see below.
I had a chat with some gal from BT but not much help either.

Do an exchange search on samknows too. My address popped up there as FTTC enabled a while back when it wasn't too, the exchange search had the proper info with it being unavailable.

I have unlimited broadband with BT infinity 2. I joined in June 2011.

edit: nvm looks like the issue is fixed. Torrents are going fast again :D

You'll need to re-contract if you want to get rid of the shaping.

Use the BT Wholesale checker. https://www.btwholesale.com/pages/s...unity/Coverage/ADSL_Availibility_Checker.html

Samknows always says that. Look at the wholesale checker, you should be able to get FTTC some time this year if all goes well.
