BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Lucky you. :)

I'm still waiting for them to finish installing FTTC cabinet. It's in but they haven't done anything in awhile now. :(

I haven't got a clue where my cabinet is. There is one at the end of my road but no FTTC one has been put in so it can't be that. Wherever it is it must be far as apparently i can only get 39Mb:o

My date got moved back a week to this friday coming, thinking its because i decided to get a new line for the connection as i cant ditch Sky until may and wanted the socket in my office with my equipment.

Anyone know if the speed they estimate is usually the same? im about 110 yards walking distance from my cabinet roughly the same as the crow fly, im estimated at 59.6MB down and 20MB up, not fussed if thats all i get as only on 3-4Mbps ADSL at the moment.

i was quoted exactly the same as you, have been connected about 2 weeks now and the speeds are 66 / 17 :)

This is mine after a week of fibre install, was quoted 55/20.

Good results.. Check out the Amsterdam Beta that will max out your line and give the best results..

BTW Whereabouts in Ashton are you mate? I'm off Ellesmere, near the Pit Pony..

Yep, very out of date, Still says my cabinets are not part of a phase on there, and doesn't show the cabinet locations anyway, only the exchange!

Unless you live somewhere someone has physically walked around and mapped the cabinets you need to find it yourself anyway. That link gives your cabinet number, so does the BT wholesale checker at the top when you search by address.

Google Maps to find them then go for a walk and check the numbers on each cabinet, that's what i had to do :)

Edit - looks like some might be harder to notice on google maps than others :p

I'm not in Ashton, I'm in Leigh. Will try that in a second, just maxed out via a torrent @8.3mb/s constant, then dropped off near completion of the file. Took like 14 mins for near 7GB.

Okay mate - like i said i'm in Ashton I got enabled a month ago. Did have full 80/20 for around a week but now settled in at 67/20 hit 7.5 mb/s.. Which is amazing compared with the 8/1 I had for a few years..

Well according to wholesale checker I am served by cabinet 3, and the only cabinet i found with a 3 on it is about half a mile down the road. Does that seem right for a quoted speed of 39Mb?

My exchange is accepting orders for Infinity according to Open Reach map, but I can't order yet when I enter my BT phone number. Soon I hope :).

Cabinet is nice and close, 80/20mb please :).

NGA Enquiries just replied with:

The current predicted date for this cabinet to go live is early May. Your expected download speed will be around 20Mb.

Cabinet got installed 2 weeks ago. The predicted speeds seem pretty poor, was hoping it was going to be a bit higher :(
