BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

My infinity will be getting installed between 8am and 1pm today, is it worthwhile unlocking the modem or is that just if you want to get stats etc?

NGA Enquiries just replied with:
Cabinet got installed 2 weeks ago. The predicted speeds seem pretty poor, was hoping it was going to be a bit higher :(

I was quoted/predicted 55/20 & I'm now on 77/20, so depending on line quality you should expect at the minimum an extra 20 at least after line settles.

Hoping i get the same then! I've been quoted 59/20 so here's hoping i end up settling at close to 80/20.

EDIT :

BT have just came and installed my infinity, engineer was nice enough and was in and out in 10 mins, nice to have a good speed now, before and after below:

Looks like you have an issue with your upload. There is a faulty batch of HH3 which is limiting the upload to 10mbit. Run the BT wholesale speedtest then click on additional tests that should give you your actual BT line profile.

Using a ASUS RT-N66U, speedtest.net just having issues, below is results from BT speed test :

Download: 74.94Mbps
Upload: 13.31Mbps

EDIT :

Resolved my Steam issues, reverted back to Stock asus firmware, steam downloading at 8.6MB/sec, happy with that compared to the 300kbps i used to get!

Still might be worth looking at upload a little. Although this may or may not do anything for you.

Been living under a rock recently, so the news that BT have removed traffic shaping is news to me!

Think I need to recontract my Infinity 2 package (started in December) then :) Just a simple call I guess?

Ive just had BT infinity installed and all seems rosey. However my download speeds are like 1.8kB/s, yet when I do a speed test im getting like 40mB/s. Anyone have any ideas?

What are you downloading and from where when you get 1.8KB/s throughput?

I am currently on ADSL2+ at 20-22Mbit with super low ping, will I actually notice a difference with FTTC apart from massive downloads being done slightly faster? I doubt instant web pages and buffer-less 1080p videos are gonna get any better /shrug

Finally... got Infinity installed this morning so gone from a 3.9mb connection to 75mb :D

Only thing I've noticed as that it keeps going from 65mb-80mb, constantly changing so is that normal?

Seems to have settled a bit;

We went live a couple of weeks ago with infinity 2 and initially we were getting 69mb down and 19mb up, now 2 weeks later we're getting 55mb down and 15mb up. Does that seem right to you good people? Its in line with what was predicted by BT just thought it strange that our first week of it was so fast.

How much do you guys pay for infinity 2? Currently with sky and not sure weather to perhaps change to BT now i believe they have stopped there traffic shaping
