BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

What's a good router to replace the HH5 with, it's been utterly terrible and I think it's the main reason I now get lag playing fifa, someone on the official forum switched it out for another router and said it's much better.

Don't mind the cost and would like something with good wireless range/signal if possible.

Got into the office today, and have a whole 5mb downstream on my FTTC line, got to love BT and it consistancy! Lets hope during the day it picks itself up eventually, I'd be better off back on my old ADSL2 connection.

Surprised to hear that. I've been using the HH5 for a few weeks now and think it's excellent.
Every bit as good as the Openreach supplied modem and ASUS router combination I was using before (only swapped so everything was in one unit).

I can't believe it's the HH5 causing your lag.

I've just been told that Cabinet 8 in Chatteris is being upgraded and should be in place next month!!!

I can't quite believe it :) Not sure if it's got anything to do with my constant representations to BT/Local Council/MP etc or not, to be honest I don't really care!

A quick online search of planning applications in Belper shows applications for two FTTC cabinets (both accepted in April 2013). Neither application appears to be for that cabinet.

Cannot think why BT would lie. It would be in their interest to install a fibre cabinet where there is demand.

Could anyone give me a number to get in touch with BT so I can ask about these cabinets please?

so after 5 months of them sending engineers to fix my line, finally got put onto a different cab which is fibre ready, copper line is 100% stable, and getting upgraded to 80/20 for free :D

happy days!

Cheers Chris, sounds like that might be a plan.

Do BT offer discounts like x months half price? Also are they the best fibre ISP to be with? Personally I'd rather not give Sky a penny of my money but I won't take a considerably lesser product because of that!

Sorry, can't help as to how good BT are as my FTTC is free through work (and not with BT). All I could say is shop, see if can play providers against each other and keep an eye on cashback offers (eg BT)

Alternatively you could just calm down a bit and try the address checker rather than the inaccurate postcode checker which will probably confirm your cabinet is due to get a FTTC twin by the end of March 2014 ;)

I just picked the first address in the list but if you are served by cabinet 1 it'll be the same.

Yes that's what I posted before in this thread and someone said that the fiber multicast thing is irrelevant, it's literally like 2-3 pages back or maybe more.

So i'm still not sure in what's going on here ladies. The council said that BT have never applied to change the cabinet, BT have told me they they tried twice but have been refused both time. Now i'm supposedly due a cabinet there on the 31st.

 :p

Your check didn't show FTTC availability because you used postcode instead of address. You'll see FTTC availability info if you use the address checker.

So it will be coming for sure then, just the date may change? Sorry for all these questions, it's just that the knuckle-dragges from the town up ahead already have it's and it's a total ****hole.

Just seen an old email I missed in nov.

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your enquiry about fibre broadband, you are connected to St Marychurch exchange cabinet WW/SMAR 31.
This cabinet is in the Openreach fibre broadband plans to be rolled. We currently intend to rollout fibre broadband as FTTP in the cabinet area. Unfortunately, as this involves the provision of a new fibre network, it will take some time before it is available. At present, the network is still in the planning stage, therefore, I would suggest writing back at the end of march next year for a progress report on the networks build progress.
If you have any further questions, please ensure you have read the FAQ's on our website, http://www.openreachfibrebroadband.co.uk/faq/ . If your question is answered within the FAQ section, we will not respond to your e-mail.

Regards

Tony Franklin

Does this sound like they are planning to skip fftc and upgrade us straight to fftp?

It would make sense as our cab is aluminium cable from exchange to cab and cab to house, hence why we get 2meg.

All other cabs in the area have been upgraded to fftc bar ours.

Hmmm

The bit where he says "We currently intend to rollout fibre broadband as FTTP in the cabinet area" would make you think yes??

How far away are you from the exchange? (following the roads)

But be aware those dates are not set in stone and can change at any time ;)

Too right. Mine was set for end mar 2013 then suddenly put back to end Mar 2014. :(

However, recently spotted a new Huawei cabinet 100m from my standard cab.

No sign of excavations to connect them though.
