BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

he said they were about to role out an "Infinity 3" product that would be upto 160Mb but so far no sign of anything faster than 80Mb in my area :S (not that I'm complaining as 80Mb is pretty adequate for now).

Gotta love BT engineer BS.

Saw this forum from plusnet about Openreach roll out 'Vectoring? and the staff reply:

They've not said anything yet so I don't know. They've been testing retransmission (G.INP) as well in a few other areas as well and the last I heard was that they were evaluating the results of both those trials before they would announce any decisions.

The guy seemed to be one of the more knowledgeable ones, unlike the next 2 I had to deal with. Its something I don't understand as it seems BT only uses the 17a profile but the speeds he showed me are only possible with the 30a profile and it was a live reading not a calculated theoretical speed. Need to get a modem I can pull the stats off as this one requires opening up and soldering extra electronic on to unlock :(

Argh, well my Infinity 2 is well and truly borked at the moment.
I complained that my 74mb line had dropped and capped itself to 49mb. Eventually we got an engineer out who said there were no faults on the line, but he would reset DLM.
This was on Friday and over the weekend I had disconnects left right and centre. Eventually everything seemed to stabilise at around 65mb and I actually got 14hrs of uptime.
Then I started getting some more reboots.
As of this morning it was back down to a 1hr of uptime - so obviously reboots over night and my connection is down to 54mb.

Underperforming, unreliable broadband - exactly what you want. So gaming is out of the question as is streaming videos etc.

*Sigh*

What router you using?

I really need to get rid of the HH5 now it's rebooting itself nearly every day, was perfect before with the white modem and HH3.

The saying is true, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

HH5 is pile of crappy one. The worse I ever seen in my life. Blame BT for new firmware that keep doing rebooting the HH5 as BT haven't got any clue yet and no fix yet. I just sold my HH5 on ebay. Glad to get rid of it.

How often were you getting reboots and what have you replaced it with?

6 times in 24 hours. Replaced with my own Netgear DGND3700v2 no rebooting ever since. I can see BT Shop on BT website taken down HH5.

Our HH5 has rebooted a few time since we got Infinity at the beginning of November so it's not an issue. So what are you using as the VDSL modem?

You can still use the HH5 with the white vdsl modem, that's what im doing at the moment, my guess is BT will eventually sort it with a firmware release.

I get a lower sync with the built in VDSL modem on the HH5 compared to the white HG612.

I've read some people saying they've got a better sync with the HH5.
