Changed my DNS to Google's (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4) and everything is working fine now.
I don't think it was a DNS issue as such - looks more like a major routing/peering outage which made BT's own DNS servers (and OpenDNS) inaccessible as collateral damage, but for some reason Google DNS was still reachable. I pinged (pung?) 8.8.8.8 and it was fine, but OpenDNS (208.67.222.222) kept timing out.

Seems fixed for now anyway. :)

Grrrr just took a laptop back to someone and fired it up at their place ,spent over an hour there trying to access the net properly
Brought it back to my place ,different isp all working fine
Got to go back now and take it back again
NOT HAPPY:(

My connection during that time this morning seems to have gone back to 40/10, with a ping of 30ms, knocking 10ms off the average.

Maybe my line is so hopeless that not even a huge drop out can break it? :p

Edit: Seems it wasnt something that would affect me on Sky. Oh well.

Seems correct as I'm normally on unblock.us DNS servers but they wouldn't resolve either.

Hi.
I just moved to a new flat and i need to install a broadband. When im checking availability on bt website it say i can get the fiber broadband. The problem is that ill be living in the new place for only 12 months. Does anyone know a company that offers 12 months contracts for fiber on bt cables?

Is that after you've been exhausted over the phone for 2 - 4 hours dialling many numbers that takes you to the first number you dialled?

Having read through a way too many of these interesting posts I was wondering if my ISP was right to send a BT engineer out when my 5-month constant 9.3Mbps fibre uploads speeds dropped to 6.2Mbps suddenly? My download speeds were never affected.

I'm now being charged the £140-odd callout fee having found from the engineer report there are no problems even though line profile was reset and new VDSL plate was put on just in case. Line speed though went back up to 8Mbps after the visit but now down to 6.7Mbps.

No idea what to do since I'm going to be tight on cash for a couple of months after this (not yet paid it) and feel like there's nothing I can do. My speeds weren't terribly low but surely this isn't normal?
