BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Anyone on infinity having problems with twitch in peak hours, specifically streaming your own, rather than watching someone else's stream.

Twitch is fine and my streams are great outside of peak. During peak, the EU servers all jump from 15-40ms, up to 70-90ms. This wouldn't be a problem, except they randomly spike to 175-200ms, which causes buffering on the stream.

My setup is exactly for streaming is always the same, so nothing my end. It also doesn't seem to be congestion either at my end, I still get max speed in peak hours and good ping elsewhere, it's only twitch that is the problem.

I thought it must be twitch is just overloaded, but I don't see anyone else complaining and it used to be fine in peak.

Can anyone recommend a combined modem/router for Infinity 2?

My HH3 is going faulty (dropping connection all the time) Had to use a spare one from the other halfs shop.

Don't really want to pay more than £80.

Does anyone know a site that would let me know what CAB I'm attached to and it's location. I've had Infinity 2 for over a year but only connects at approx 22 (2.2MB download) which is slower than my old ADSL service. (I've had numerous calls to BT about this and apart from replacing the modem to stop the constant disconnects the speed hasn't increased. :(

The results from the BTW checker should tell you the cabinet number. Location data isn't published though (AFAIK), so it's case of having a walk round your area or firing up Google Streetview.

The checker will give you the estimated speeds - are they are around 22Mbps down?

Thanks Chri5.

I've (hopefully) posted the image below of the results I get.

So I'm either on the low end of a 'Clean' line or a high 'impacted' line.

I'll fire up Google Street View and see if I can find the CAB.

You must be a fair way from the cabinet.

I estimate I'm 400 to 500m away from my cab and the clean figures are 47.8 & 34.8, impacted 40 to 22.4. I'm on the 40/10 profile and get exactly that.

How accurate is the the wholesale checker? I'm moving to a property soon and despite being 100m from a cabinet with a big fibre sticker on it SKY are insisting it isn't available, the wholesale checker says that this address is connected to Cheltenham cabinet 8 and that it is available so I cant see what's going wrong?

Could be no capacity at the cabinet. Have you tried www.superfast-openreach.co.uk ?

Both TalkTalk and Sky need an additional piece of hardware installed to offer FTTC. GEA cable link.

My cab went live in March and the GEA link has only now just gone in. YMMV.

Just out of interest, does anyone know how long (on average) it takes to commission a new cab? My cab has just gone in last week, I'm guessing it's going to be sometime between now and Christmas? :p

Ours was approx 6-8 weeks from seeing the cab installed to then seeing the road being dug up and the fibre being put in and then finally actually having it installed and working at home.

Wheras mine has been in the ground with no further works on it since march :(

Thanks, I was running on the assumption of between 6 and 12 weeks.

Is your exchanged enabled already, just the cab that needs to go in?
