BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Infinity 2 setup in our new place, ditched the HH, running HG612 in bridge mode with AC87U as router, seems really good.

Got them to move the master socket as well, that improved sync from 69000 odd to 79000.

HG612 and HH5 acting just as a router, so far in this configuration the HH is actually proving reliable just being a wireless router.

Last question - promise.
Was this simply HH5 to HG modem via WAN port on the back of the HH5?
No other configuration required.

Just today I have had BT Infintiy 4 300mb installed. Cracking results so far just hope it keeps like this during peak times. Love it!!

Nice speed MattHep ! What speed did you have before?

I've just had my infinity 2 installed. :D

Thats coming from 3/0.37mbit

I had the same as what you have there. I moved address and found there was fibre to the property so impulse bought it. I'll never use it to its full but it's great to have it.

Hello

A friend of mine has openreach internet installed with a HH5 router. They dont have a clue about anything technical so they have asked me to assist them.

Although im pretty good at the techy stuff I know nothing about BT internet as I've been on cable for 12 years lol

The router they have is the HH5 and they suffer from drop outs and two of there smart tv's wont connect at all (Samsung TVs).

I suggested a new router and they bought this

It doesnt seem to handshake at all. I have put all the manual commands and settings in 0, 38 ppoa etc.

Im not sure if the router is the right one.

I think i need to know what connection they have then I should be able to get a router that works.

Thanks in advance to any help :)

Are they on a BT Infinity (FTTC / VDSL) service? If so, I don't see any mention of VDSL support on the spec's sheet for the Asus, so I doubt it will ever handshake...

There are more routers which support VDSL available now, or get an VDSL modem from the Bay and use a "normal" Cable router (with an Ethernet WAN port)

It's not as good as it sounds, I had Hyperoptic when I lived in London and for much of the time their network had serious congestion problems every evening.

Yeh that's what I read on a few forums which made me decide against it. I definitely wouldn't use 1gb though. I was downloading on steam last night and the download was interrupted by reading data to the disk. It couldn't keep up.

You know you have an awesome connection when it has to wait for your harddrive as it's maxed out! :D
