BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Hmm so our move gets closer, the decision for broadband still to be made. Do we move our BT, and recontract at 12 months or try someone else, eg Zen who are a little cheaper.

The only incentive to stay is that it seems moving and activating the line won't take BT long at all (less than a week they said), but would getting a new company add much delay, as presumably they'll need to take over the copper pair from BT?
 
Problem: Seeding on Deluge was terrible, only getting about 120KiB/s.

BT Infinity doesn't throttle P2P you say?

So following on from the issues I was having earlier in this thread I switched from Plusnet to Zen yesterday and lost a lot off my sync and download rates.

Long story short despite syncing at full speed with PN I was only getting around 68Mb down rather than the 75Mb I should be.

I'm a bit miffed as I've always been at full sync, line length of 150m. :(

Do these stat from the router tell you anything? Before the switch with PN my sync was ~75000 and the max rate was ~77000. My upload has not changed.

I can't do a test on the BTW site to check my IP Profile as it just say this:

"The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider."

Highly likely the switch has turned off G.INP on your line, give it a few weeks and it should be automatically turned back on and return to previous sync.
 
Do I need a master socket at all for Infinity2? The new house doesn't have one, just a standard phone socket. Wondering if using a filter I'd see any difference?
 
There'll be a master socket, but not necessarily a NTE5. It could be external, but it will exist.

Any phones need to be connected via a filter.

If you don't have any phones you don't need any filters (the filters let the entire signal through on the broadband side).

Zen reckon a 15 day worst case scenario for installation so I think we'll go with them.
 
Well, BT are aware of the p2p thing, so I should be contacted at some point about it.

Has anyone tried baby jumbo frames on compatible routers? Turns out BT are compatible with it, so you can crank up your MTU to 1500.

Yeah I have no idea why this is happening. The only realistic possibility is a gateway level throttle through QoS.

...yet I don't have QoS enabled as being bandwidth starved has never been an issue for me.

Only thing I can think of is old Infinity accounts that had p2p were grandfathered into the new Infinity systems with p2p throttle checks still on their accounts, and it had to be removed. Perhaps then that option still exists and my account accidentally got ticked up for that?

Someone at BT would need to check that, at least.

I finally got round to unlocking the modem last night. Also running DSLstats.

Well my smart hub lasted approximately 24 hours. Came home from work the day after my service was activated and the hub seemed to have gone into a power saving mode or something. Restarted it and since then no devices can see the wifi network. Originally thought it might be a problem with wifi channels as the ethernet was still working but apparently not :(. Tried a factory reset which appears to have completely bricked it. What a useless piece of junk, from reading online it seems many people are having issues with these. Couldn't get through to their support either, not impressed so far!

Hang in there mate. I've been with BT for a good 4+ years now and my experiences with BT have been pretty good. Call them up tell them the issue and they will probably eventually send you a replacement router.
 
My BT infinity activities tomorrow from sky fibre, I will be using my own billion router is there a password and username to enter? The last time I was with BT it was just left blank is that still the case?
