BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Any guys that have switched from sky to BT what times does the switch over normally happen?

Any time on the day. BT cocked up our order the first time so OR switched us over 3 days early at the cab. Second time it was later on in the day. The last migration I did was nice and early though, just depends.

So what's a recommended router for bt infinity? Every thread I read about specific ones people are moaning they lose connection or that they aren't good enough. My Smart Hub died last night (solid green light) and BT are only delivering a new one Wednesday.

I can buy one from the Rainforest by 5pm and get it tomorrow, which is the plan since the household can't live without internet. Options are VR900, D7000 & AC68-U

After moaning about our naff internet for years a fibre cab has appeared by our regular cab :) Estimated live by March, fingers crossed...

Got an email from BT a few months ago saying 'Good news!! We've increased your speed for free' as well as a few other free things like extra storage space and BT Sport channels back again on the Sky+ box. It said that it may take a period of time for the speed increase to show up.

Fast forward a few months later and my speed hasn't changed a bit - I'm on Infinity 1 and its always been about 38-40Mb download. Any ideas if I'm hoping for too much to see a speed increase? What do you think BT were referring to?

They upped the maximum Infinity 1 customers can get from 38Mbps to 52Mbps, but if your line won't support the faster speed (mine doesn't appear to) you won't get the benefit.

Archer 1900 or one of the Asus ones.

I've just replaced my HH5 with a netgear D7800 was getting 79/20 but terrible wi-fi with that one so replaced it - I've added a netgear gigabit switch GS108v4 too so I have NAS and PC into switch and cat6 from switch to new router. (Modem is built in). Speed tests last night after full firmware upgrade and reboot was 0.4mb download and 20 upload. WTF is up with BT, left it to go to sleep and this morning I'm at 4mb down and 10 up. I'm definitely at full gigabit speed from switch so guess I'm going to have to talk to someone tonight after work.....sigh

Just moved house, more than happy with this:

Hey guys,

What's the rate of getting a bad internet service with BT Infinity? Me and my family are looking into switching to BT Infinity if we continue to get speeds like this on a Virgin 70Mbps connection:

I'm just worried about switching and then ending up with an equally as bad internet service as me and my family are currently receiving, the thing is between 2am and 3pm / 4pm the speeds are normal and actually over 70Mbps - usually around 77Mbps. However after 4pmish until 2amish the speeds slow down to 10Mbps or lower (sometimes as low as 0.5Mbps, but usually around 5Mbps), which isn't normal for a so called "fibre optic" connection if you ask me.

Put your address in that to get an estimate on FTTC speeds if supplied!
