BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Some postcodes are for over a hundred houses so a postcode check in itself isn't really that accurate.

I thought about that, this postcode appears to be for 5 houses and is 213ft away from the cabinet and 3km from the exchange, although no expert and I have never used BT fiber before. Hence asking on here, I would go into shock if I bought a house that could only get ADSL:eek:

Also Virgin media say the house is scheduled to be connected through Cablemystreet. I think their currently spending 'x' million on network expansion and picking off the easy stuff first. The house is a newish build in a street that has cable already.

Do you know what's weird about this? I can get FTTP but there's not FTTC option. Only ADSL2. So I might not have a choice.

Why would they waste money on an FTTC cabinet if your area is lucky enough to get pure fibre? You can order Infinity 1 and Infinity 2 speeds with an FTTP line and you're guaranteed to sync at the speed you pay for :).

Thanks for this information. It's clearer now. Going to go for infinity 4 for a year just to try it once in my life.

I'm actually shopping around now. Currently on infinity 2 but sync at 49mb.
Bt increasing pricing so looking at sky zen or plusnet with cash back deals

The newest hub is the best hub yet in terms of signal for me. Never had any issues. Can't comment on the last bit, I'd recommend going through Quidco/TCB though if you do go for it as it's worth it.

If you have Sky TV you can get Sky Fibre for £30 inc Line Rental and only £10 activation.

But if there is no BT line there you have to pay £120 BT install fee I've read? So in my case BT would be the more cost effective way unless Sky discount by £120 in the service

To be honest I dont know why its such an issue. Sky put there TV prices up every year and its never such an uproar. Plusnet wanted to charge £32 for ADSL 14mb speed for my Father in law yet I get BT Infinity 2 for £32.

If the expected price rise of about £2.50 for my product happens its not too bad. Can I get this cheaper elsewhere without it going up again at the end of the contract ? I've not changed provider for quite a few years so I dont know whether I can be a) bothered with the hassle b) risk ending up with lower speeds.

With what I get now will probably look into going for Infinity 1 if its still around come price rise and actually save myself £6 for not that much reduction in speed.

I only get 47 or so with Zen, however with the new noise limits coming that may go up. Plus my upload is 18, and I'd drop to 8 or whatever if I went on the lower profile so to me I'd rather keep what I have.

I've looked at changing but then my connection has been solid for over a year, so I'll likely stay put.

Just been wondering whether to downgrade to BT Infinity 1. At moment I pay £32 plus £18.99 line rental £50.99. Using speed tests I get about 54-56 meg although my HH says my line can do 63 meg. Infinity 1 is upto 52meg, Infinity 2 is upto 76meg.

Looking at My BT they have already updated the prices to take into account the new rise (cheeky!) so for Infinity 2 I would be paying £53.99 an increase of £3. If I drop to Infinity 1 it would be £47.49 which is actually a saving of £3.50 for slightly less speed. However would I get the full 52meg! Interesting.
