BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

That sucks, I'm on an ECI DSLAM. What was the point in having two different types to start with? Surely that's only going to cause issues.

Anyone else read THE email today from BT? £2.50 rise in April. It's not the reason however it has given me my "get out of jail free card" to end my contract early. I'm now moving and no longer need the BT line so I'm 4 months into a 12 month contract and I get to leave it (new house already has a service by other means).

If you do a complete cease on the broadband Openreach will most likely still want their £30 or whatever the current charge is. That's still a lot better than having to pay off the broadband contract and having to pay the cease charge.

Yes mine is up going up by £4 (BT Sport too)

Currently weighing up my options, I have BT Sport on my Sky so the price of that would increase should I leave.

I couldn't get Virgin when I was renting but having bought a house very recently it is now a possibility and Infinity 2 is only giving me 50-60 down and 13-15 up now, which makes it seem poor value.

Not sure if this has been mentioned further down the thread.

just to warn users - BT has rencently announced price increases. You can check to see if/how your bill will be affected here: https://www.bt.com/static/wa/account/pricechanges/login/login.html?s_cid=con_FURL_myprices

Mine is to increase by £3 (from 2nd April) and i only just switched to BT 15 days ago... nice....

Don't forget that when your contract changes like the above, you have the right to leave without any penalties.

Only just took my 12 month contract out a couple of weeks ago...

TIp- don't get the line rental saver. I only did because I prefer to get this done and paid for but screws you over in these instances. Can't negotiate as you're tied in or lose your line rental.

Just a little tip if you are wanting a landline only - there is a deal called home phone saver 2019 - its not actively advertised on their website but its £21.99 fixed for line rental and anytime calls for upto an hour until 2019, this also includes BT Call Protect, BT Privacy at Home and BT Privacy at Home - Caller Display.

I already had virgin installed a couple of months back and have a rock solid 221 Mbit connection, and was still in contract for infinity till April. The price hike has allowed me to cancel infinity early without a charge.

The wife wants a landline and i want to keep it incase virgin goes belly up and i can be up and running with infinity as a backup within a couple of weeks if needs be.

Surely cheaper to get a virgin landline?

Is there likely to be a noticeable difference in sync speed between using the 3-ish metre cable my HomeHub came with, vs a 10m one? At the moment my router is in one corner of my living room with most of my kit in the other side meaning I have to use homeplugs/wifi, but I'd prefer to have the router near the TV, NAS etc and connect with cables.

As an update, bought a 10m decent quality ADSL cable from Amazon for £5, works perfectly and still syncing at the same rate as before. :)
