BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I switched from BT to Sky.

Other than the Q hub being crap, I've had no real issues. Same sync speed, pings are little lower than BT (not much, but a little lower). Sky run a transparent dns proxy on the Q hub now, so if you use custom dns, you'll have to get firmware rollback or use something else.

Not sure what hub you had from BT, but you can flash the hh5a with openwrt and then use on sky. It's a nice enough router when it's not crippled by BT's firmware.

The new Hub 4 coming by the end of the year is much, much better.

LOL, just spoke to a right one at Sky. Offered me a contract renewal of £29.50 per month which halved my Internet speed from 65Mb to 35Mb. He said they couldn't offer a higher speed to my location. Off to PlusNet then!

It seems to be the really predictable outcome of ISPs having to advertise the average speed that their customers receive - there's no incentive to offer people who can get a sync rate around the 50Mbps mark anything other than the up-to 40Mbps service, as it will bring down the number they're allowed to advertise the 80Mbps tier at.

You've already said in another thread that the freeholder sees it as an opportunity to make a load of cash off the wayleave agreement required for someone to come in, that's an argument that you need to have with them. It's unreasonable IMO to block someone like Hyperoptic coming in at no cost to yourself other than a bit of admin work and providing a shared space for the equipment to live.

Plusnet seem like a right shower, too. My order hasn't progressed since sign up 9 days ago so I've knocked them on the head under the 14-day cooling off period. Where to try next? Talktalk.
