BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Just spent the last 2/3 hours routing my ethernet cable from the downstairs fibre box, up the stairs, and into the livingroom / man cave.

Managed to get the trunking from ScrewFix which was open for online ordering and collection. Big thanks!

Turned out really well, I would say 9/10 people that came in would not really notice the work we done. :)

Pics! :D

The only two gripes I have are the cupboard where the Fibre box is cannot be lifted, so had to put some duct tape across to stop tripping, but im never in there and cannot be seen when the door is closed. Two, need some corner pieces to cover all 100% of the cables.

But so far...

Have you thought about wireless? Or POwerLine adapters etc..?

Or do the speeds drop off quite quickly? There is no substitute for wires really is there? :(

No like you I can only get gigabit speed with an Ethernet cable, can’t even get my base speed of 500 mbit/s without using a cable. Everything had been ok for the last year and a half but now my base speed has outgrown what my WiFi adapter is capable of.

Powerline adapters aren’t quite there yet either.

Thanks mate, Im really pleased with it overall.

Im on the Full Fibre 900 service. Went live yesterday. Really enjoying the speeds, and the price wasnt too unreasonable.

What about yourself? Are you with BT also?

I'm with Zen, only on the 150 package and I think they only do up to 300 atm. But alas I'm happy with this, after coming from a 4mb connection :D

Zen are real good, I was with them back in the day, service second-to-none. And yeah, TBH I have found this speed to be a bit overkill lol, but has helped my ping and latency a bit, so im happy at that.

As far as I know the BT units are made by Huawei or they where, not sure if this is still the case.

Edit: It seems the smaller newer units are made by Nokia.

Not yet, I think current deployments are the single port Huawei units without the larger plastic case that used to house the battery unit.
