BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I had a update from BT today saying the following:

We are very happy to let you know that we've recently announced plans to start upgrading the network in your location, and our initial planning work will include your street. In the near future, you may see people working on behalf of Openreach in your area. Be sure to say "hi" if you see them.

It can take a year or more to finish your local network upgrade. Much of the time, you may not actively see us because we're meeting with local councils, landlords and highway authorities to get all the necessary permissions to install the new Openreach kit. Then we work on installing new equipment in our local exchange and other parts of town to get the fibre to your street.

So that lines up with the reply I got from another Openreach department saying it should be up and running by September to December.

Same here. If I check on the BT website it says that 'Full Fibre' isn't available here yet which I know isn't actually the case.

I've got the same issue, I got a email from Openreach to say my area is now complete, And full fiber is available, gave me a list of providers that are currently offering FTTP, Bt are the cheapest in terms of speed and price, but on the BT site I can't order, my package atm that is available to me is Fiber2, 73mb.

Openreach are still paying all their staff so they're doing as much external works as possible for any orders, so an FTTP order will have the ducts proven as clear and either roped or a connectorised fibre will be pulled in and just left coiled up outside the house, so the final install is one hole through the wall and ONT commissioning.

Openreach pulled the fibre through yestarday to the side of my house after laying new ducting a few weeks back, he said that they are reviewing the coming into houses for work at the moment.

Currently my install date has been pushed to the middle of July on the booking system they have sent out the Smart Hub despite the system date for dispatch being a few days before the install.

If they do continue the no home visit policy I hope they offer a home install kit, I would be happy to fit this and I am sure many other customers would be aswell.

I'm sure a lot of people could do it but I doubt they'd ever allow it - the ONT is the future master socket for all services so Openreach would prefer a delayed install over a botched one.

Mine wouldn't need ducting. It's already fitted up to the telegraph pole they did it a couple of years ago, so just need a cable connecting and running down my wall and through the wall.

My preference is Sky though always seem cheaper for me.

Sky have been in a state of launching FTTP for the past year but for some reason haven't managed to quite get there, so nobody can tell you how much longer you might need to wait

I'm trying to work out if you're in an FTTP enabled area and want to place an order but can't. Or, if yoiu're in an FTTC area and want the FTTP infrastructure to be installed.

BT aren't taking any orders for FTTP at present as Openreach can't do the in house work. It makes sense really, BT aren't having to tell people they have no idea what their install date would be. I'm in the situation where FTTP is available in my area but until BT are taking orders I can't get things moving.

I and others who already have FTTP service active just want an upgrade to new products if coming to the end of contract, which they are still able to do.

Just new orders unable to do like you say. Is your installation where they do the fibre cable attached to existing phone line or they digging up street installations?
The work required is it just in house to install the ont?

I assume when I get my FTTP installed I'm hoping to get the 900mb package from BT, my powerlines that I currently use wouldn't quite be up to the task? And best to run Ethernet cable to my PC from the router?

My powerline adapter is 2000mbps but it's a new build goin through a circuit breaker so I could only get 150mbps on 300mb. I have 900 service now and gone to wifi 6 adapter inside pc. router is only a few meters away across the kitchen and gettin 500mb over wifi do a bt smart hub 2 wifi 5 router. I can't justify paying £180 for decent wifi 6 router just yet to get the full speed over wifi. If I need to download something large I just plug the cat6 cable in temporarily. I am pinging <0ms to router on intel ax200 wifi 6 card though which is better speed and reliability for me than powerline adapter due to my situation.

Anyone on 900mb getting close to max speed through powerline?

Mine will be a new installation.

No digging required as far as I know, there's a duct from the manhole with the CBT to my property but installing the ONT needs an Openreach chap in the house which isn't happening for the forseeable.
