BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

How are people unlocking their BT Infinity modems so they can see the stats and stuff? I can't find anything, although admittedly I didn't spend very long looking.

Had my infinity installed last March with similar initial performance to yours for the first few days. WAS NOT HAPPY, but being busy at work I hadn't had a chance to chase it for about a week. Then sat down to collect stats and it was perfect:rolleyes: Been trouble free since:cool:

Today's connection:

Seriously tempted to hack the modem though, if only to route through opendns.

Good to know. I'm not exactly raging, it's awesome to be able to use the net whenever I want to do what I want without buffering and my in game ping has near halved!

Does anyone know how to turn the VDSL modem bt provide into a "dumb" modem. I dont want the modem controlling the firewall or anything.I want to bridge it with a tomato usb router.

That's just what the HG612 is (locked or unlocked). All NAT/PAT/firewalling etc is done by the device behind it.

Better downstream, worse upstream.

My exchange is due to get infinity by 31/12/2011, I cant wait!!!

Ordering new BT broadband for my new place then a couple of weeks later I'll upgrade to infinity.

I wouldn't be so quick to jump ship to BT - your exchange being enabled doesn't always mean you will get infinity. My exchange was enabled in march - despite being told I would have it then, my cab hasn't been updated and it's been put back twice since, now to December 31st 2011. No work is being dOne on my cab, yet all others in vicinity have been upgraded. It's not even far from the exchange!

Unless you have assurances of the upgrade or can physically see a new fibre cabinet I would wait personally.

Well I'm moving out of my parents house into my own so I will need my own brand new bb.

I am thinking of going BT so I can get line rental, calls, bb and TV (ESPN and Sky sports) all on one bill without the hassle of getting a dish on a rented apartment.

The BT ADSL speed is 5mb so thats twice as fast as my parents anyway, so even if inifinity is a lie then it's still faster than I am used to and I get everything all on one bill.

Couldn't be happier with Zen so far. None of this "not bad for Sunday evening" lark, same speed, any traffic, 24/7. Worth every penny.
