BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Couldn't be happier with Zen so far. None of this "not bad for Sunday evening" lark, same speed, any traffic, 24/7. Worth every penny.

Indeed. Performance is fantastic. Might check out Be* if they have a product out by the time my contract ends.

Bt is a lot cheaper than Zen, from what I can see HERE.

Absolutely, but with no traffic shaping/contention, like I say, worth every penny :D

Yeah, I used to be on Be*/o2 and really liked their pricing and service. If/when they sort out their FTTC service (seems they're being picky at the minute but fair enough) and my year is up we'll see what happens.

Well BT Traffic shape Bit torrent traffic, up utill about 12.30am.

But I dont torrent so its not an issues.

I did not so long ago have a problem with BFBC2, where I couldnt get the server browser to display any results. Turned out it was being treated a encrypted p2p and throttled.

But it has since been fixed.

There where also issues with the Adobe website not so long ago.

So the traffic shapping is there.

Guess thats you then mate, as for me as mentioned numerous times by myself and others throughout this thread ... none here :)

Gah, still stuck on the slow profile, 9mbps down, 1.4 up on the highest package. Going to have to call them to get it sorted, doesn't sound right to me when it was running much, much faster for a few weeks.

You're guaranteed 10 or 12 mbps iirc, check out the BT speedtester. 9 is not acceptable on the 40mbps packed

Those zen prices look pretty reasonable, if i had seen that before i signed up to BT i would have gone with the £55 200gb cap one from zen, 200gb per month is alight. But i can do 50gb easy in a day on fiber. Only thing with that is the £85 set up fee and the bt phone line cost is on top of that.

Right now i should be paying £65 per month fully inclusive for 21 months. (first three months free) that is if bt can get their billing right. They keep sending me the wrong bills. I had to call them up three times already. I had to argue with them about the 3 months free, they went and listened to phone calls, i laughed and said good luck, as there was about 50 phone calls with them making mistakes, making promises etc. They would spend hours listening to them all. I have emails from June that says i get first three months free. They even started charging me for a static ip that i did not ask for and it is not even a real static ip. They sent me two bills for £250 and now i got one for £60 for a three month rental of the phone line starting in November. *sigh*

You sure about that virgin media 50 and 100mbs service don't have no throttling what so ever but I know the cheaper packages do, as its peak times I'm hoping someone can show me the speeds that they get now on torrents

About 30kb/s for the last 2 hours. Before BT was installed earlier, same file was downloading at 650kb/s.

Is there anyway I can see when my CAB/Exchage is going to be enabled? It says on the BT Infinity website that "Gateshead" is due for activation in March.

BT's contractors are digging up the path out front our house today :o They knocked and asked firstly for permission and secondly to find out where the gas main is for our house.

They've been at it all day. Looks like they are laying new ducts and unblocking existing ones.

Ask them to pull some fibre from the cabinet to your house. ;)

I imagine home connections with bt infinity or virgin are quite capable of hosting full on 32 to 64 player dedicated game servers now?

Yes, as long as the traffic is giving priority. 64 might be pushing it. A 64 man BF2 server uses 10Mb/s upstream.

I would stay as far away from BT as you possibly can, rather go for a service with another company even though it might not be as much cap or bandwidth as BT.

If you go with BT they will mess you around and then they will try and rip you off. If BT was not a fascist organisation they would have gone out of business.

They have just added on £9 payment processing charge, they want to charge me £9 extra for processing a payment.

So to summarize, if you order it, you will most likely be without internet for a certain amount of time while they **** you around. Then once it is installed you will have at least one service disruption a month and you will experience bad latency at random times. You will then receive bills that do not correspond to the agreement. Calling them up will trick you in to thinking that they actually heard your problems and will fix it, only for you to call them up again and have to start over. After spending an hour on the phone with BT you feel like when they hang up they start laughing and throw your details in the bin.

Stay away from BT unless you like wasting your time and getting ripped off.

I wish i had not signed up to BT. I should have known. I will never make that mistake again.
