So I haven't posted here I think since I first got Infinity, but I just wanted to ask a question in case anyone knows the answer.

I've got FTTP with BT. If I wanted to switch, are there any other providers that could take me on? Or would I need to get a normal phone line installed?

I think there are a few. Zen springs to mind but I would certainly check it out. Kitz says http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/fttp.htm

Every single day, every morning, every evening, we get disconnects. I have spoken to bt phone and web chat multiple times. I have sent numerous complaints, and e-mailed their supposed 'escalated complaints' address, [email protected] and literally received no response. I have requested an engineer visit and been flat out denied. They are paying for infinity 2 but getting infinity 1 speeds.

I am at the point of **** BT. Seriously, **** them. I fully intend to move this life long customer away from this **** service as soon as I can.

edit: I am actually going to have a webchat with BT now and update this post with any bull **** i encounter.

I posted recently about a failed HH3 and I was probably going to be using a mothballed HH5 as a replacement.
On searching through draws I've come across a router which I purchased - but didn't really get around to using:

Asus RT-N56U

I see there is firmware available dated April this year, so appears to still be getting support from ASUS.
Can anyone comment on the capability of this router?
Worth going this ASUS & GT Openreach modem combo as opposed to HH5 and GT Openreadh modem combo?

Cheers.
It's a brilliant router from my experience, and I did exactly what you've asked, using the BT Infinity modem as just a dumb modem, and binned the HH3.

I bought the HG612 modem off the bay (actually turned out to be an ECI modem) to go with my ageing billion 7800n but haven't bothered to connect them up because my HH5 has been working flawlessly, maybe im just lucky.
Apparently the all-in-one's are all pretty cack and seperate modem + router is the way to go.

Thanks mate.

Can you not set the HH5 into modem only mode/disable all the routing features?

I'm now 6 weeks into a delayed FTTP order because of a routing issue that BT have apparently known about (according to the Openreach engineers) for 18 months yet done nothing to resolve.

BT are the most exasperating organisation I have ever had to deal with. Their customer service and complaints team can do nothing to resolve the issue quicker so it seems to be an at BT's leisure resolution time. We are also apparently at deadlock because my demand they commit to a resolution date is something they can't do.

I knew BT would be useless, but I didn't realise how bad it could actually be.

Has anyone got an openreach email address I can email to see if there are any plans to update my cabinet for my business where I work at ?
There is actually fibre to the building here as the last people who were in had a leased line but the costs to get it re connected are absolutely crazy! £3000 install and £600 a month for 40mb up and down :/

They closed the nga email address months ago. All you can do is look at www.superfast-Openreach.co.uk or apply pressure to your local councillor/MP.

Thanks for that.
I powered the ASUS up and downloaded the latest firmware etc.
All was working well - with one exception - cannot get my Vodafone Suresignal to work.
Did some digging aorund online about the N56U and the Suresignal and all of the posts date back around 3 years, they make a suggestion, however as the firmware has changed on the ASUS so the configuration pages have also changed. I searched through all the config pages and I believe I set things, but after an hour the Suresignal still hadn't connected.
I then found more info suggesting setting up port forwarding, again after an hour of waiting still the SS had failed to connect.

Took the ASUS down, connected the HH5 to my HG modem and within 5 minutes the SS was connected and working.
So the ASUS, which maybe old, seems to be great, but I cannot get the Vodafone device working and that is a show-stopper for me unfortunately.

Moved house recently, previously on Sky Fibre (23Mbps due to being 980m from cab) and now on Plusnet Fibre, approx 430m from cab and getting a fair chunk more

Under Ofcom regulations, where a consumer or small business (with 10 or less employees) wishes to change broadband provider, a MAC must be issued within 5 working days of the request.

Companies must offer at least two methods of providing a MAC (by email, phone or post etc).

Get them phoned up and request it there and then, don't hang up until they give it you, and just keep asking to speak to their supervisor if they don't. Good luck speaking to BT's CS!

Anyway to update the firmware on these hh5s manually or force an update? Had it plugged in for a couple of days and is yet to update to the latest firmware.

Apparently not.
Couple of threads on the BT Community forums. Leave HH5 plugged in and switched on 24/7.
You could get the update within a day, it might take a month.
