BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

Can't remember what the speed was beforehand but it was at least 3/5Mb iirc. It was able to stream 720p video anyway!

I'll check the voice service when I get home.

I'm about 3.5km by road from the exchange so I'm sure I can't expect top speeds but this is pretty ridiculous.

What else might affect the downstream sync rate?

I was getting charged £32 a month for BT Infinity 75/20. Phoned them up the other day and asked if they had any offers on and they knocked it down to £21.

Sweet.

I'm also interested in BitTorrent setups. I can max download but my upload speed is always throttled. At least it seems that way.

Was that a new contract though? 12 months I assume?

I've had my BT Infinity installed for a while now and my speeds seem to be getting slower and slower.

Here are my line stats:

Upstream Downstream
Current Rate (Kbps) 19999 58499
Max Rate (Kbps) 25870 55519
SNR Margin (dB) 15 4.9
Line Attenuation (dB) 21 15.3
Errors (Pkts) 0 0

Do these numbers seem about right or would I benefit from asking BT to reset my line profile?

Cheers

Wish they would do something about crosstalk....

Im on fibre and it was 75meg 2 years ago, now best i can hope for is 35mb!!

The cabinet is full now and i guess my only hope is vectoring.

They will not check for a line issue as "tests ok remotely" and its running at acceptable speeds. I get 35mb down and about 10 up! When it was installed it was 75 down and 20 up.

Do you have any documentation from prior to the install that gives you a minimum guaranteed speed?

No its just "upto 80mb" as usual. They say there is no fault and so wont do anything, they say its just due to utilization in the cabinet. They will only do something if it goes to less than 8mp or something daft.

Strongly considering a move to virgin when the contract is up.

The line is stable and zero noise on the voice side.

Couple for questions for all

is there any good unlimited fibre broadband companies apart from sky and plusnet ?

if i went with post office phone line(cheapest ive found), is there any fibre companies that can provide broadband only.

Which isps in the uk dont use reverse proxy dns. also I would like to use my third part router which i have pfsense firewall installed. Do most companies allow third party routers. I think plusnet do but sky doesnt and requires messing around with mac address etc.

thanks in advance

Contact support.

I gave them a call on Friday when I got in from work.

The guy ran his tests from India and claimed there is no issue whatsoever with the speed to the test socket and therefore the issue must be with the microfilter being used to connect to the router to the test socket.. I then mentioned there was a speed issue when it was plugged directly into the faceplate without a filter and he said both the faceplate and microfilter must be faulty.. Despite it being a brand new faceplate and a microfilter that worked fine when the Internet was working previously.

He was adamant that all he could do was send a new microfilter and I have to try this before it can go any further. Should have lied and said I had a spare filter to test with but didn't think of it at the time. I'll play ball and test the new filter when it comes which clearly won't make a difference then I'll escalate things.
