BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I think my standard is too high, but so far they're very slow still waiting on an answer from Fridays question.

When I did need them, they needed to get Open Reach engineers involved as there was a break in the underground part of our FTTC connection, they were great. When changing from FTTC to FTTP, although the person who installed the ONT box was less than amiable to putting it where we wanted, they were good and prompt with their support and responses.
Their forums, again not used in a while, were pretty responsive when I had used them.
I have just checked, my contract having ten months left on my contract, I'll think about what to do next closer to summer.
If I did jump to BRSK that would be a new connection again, not an issue, yet unlike the FTTC or ADSL, where they shared aspects of the sane network.

Can the rest of the properties in your street get FTTP? As your situation sounds very similar to mine, where literally ever property in my postcode except my block of flats had it made available. I emailed the openreach ceo about it and it got sorted out and we now have FTTP for our block. IF I had not done that we would have still been waiting. As prior to the email the availability check on the Openreach website was just saying sometime between now and 2027.
Yeah, exactly that all the properties here can get it. I think I've been patient enough so perhaps emailing the right person may assist in my plight. Where could I find such contact information?

The Openreach checker for my address has gone from "We are building in this area now" to "We have no plans to build Full Fibre to this property yet". Anyone else had this happen? Seems a bit weird to do quite a bit of work and then not roll it out. They've had MJ Quinn replacing chambers and unblocking ducts. Map Group were running the fibre cable (I think?). Might have to use that CEO email myself.

Just wait a bit, it will be a database update going through.
Thanks, wasn't sure if that might be the case. Couldn't remember if I'd read that before or not :)

Edit: It's back to showing "We're building in this area now"

500Mb symmetric is pretty much the perfect package. I'll take 1Gb when it's there for a £2 upgrade but 500Mbps each way is plenty quick enough to never really notice that your internet is the limiting factor.

Zen or Idnet. Can't decide, same price £42 for 500Mb. Idnet has the advantage of not sending me some crap router I need to store and send back. (They all need to offer an option of no router)

When I asked IDnet, they use the Zen backhaul.
So pretty much the same connection at the end of the day?
Gone with Idnet. I wish more have the option to not have a router. They say they want them returning to be green but you ask them not to send you one in the first place and they won't entertain it.

It's likely due to support, they will want any potential fault checking with their own router.

Definitely made the right choice, Plusnet screwed up the order, 45 minutes wait for the phone, tried the forum took 4 days to reply even after prompting them twice.
Idnet no issues, emailed to ask a question, replied on 30 minutes with the answer.

Looks like my wait may for FTTP may be coming to an end soon.
A few weeks back, I noticed the rod and rope team in the street below me. Looking on BIDB, It appears that we are getting an 'excavate to lay duct for multiple service connections' kicking off outside my property in the next day or two.

Probably not. There's a cost in actually providing a fibre but not really any incremental cost of provisioning different speeds on it. In five years when 10Gb costs £40 you'll just see 1Gb as the entry-level option for £35.
