BTCC 2013 Season

Went to Thruxton last year and sat for the whole day in the rain which practically didn't stop for the whole day to watch all the racing.

Will be going again this year :D

Haha yeah me too. I went with a mate last year. We were utterly miserable all day. Never ever been so cold or grumpy lol.

Same here...I have been plenty of times before and will continue to rain or shine, my fiancé however, for whom this was her first btcc may take a lot more persuading now...

It will be interesting to see which is quicker over a race.

But locking them into a tyre strategy the day before, and before they have even qualified, is pants.

I think it's fairly obvious how it will pan out. Select soft tyre for race 3 when you expect all hell to break loose! They are clearly the quicker tyre, but fade much quicker than the rest. So if you are near the front, and can build up a big enough lead while all the action is happening behind you, then it won't be so much of a downfall when they start to deteriorate in the later stages of the race.

Do we know what tyre they are allowed to use for qualifying?

They go on about how noise is a big problem, and restrict you or I to 98dBA, but BTCC are allowed to make as much noise as they like?

I'm guessing they have a set amount of days they can go over a certain noise level? Actual race weekends are vastly outnumbered by track days.

Yeah it's numbers. They are limited to how many days a year they can run without noise limits. It varies between circuits, with some having stupidly tight restrictions. Brands Hatch are restricted to using the GP layout to something like 10 days a year after some idiot built a housing estate next to it. Castle Combe even has a Church Break in the mornings where all engines must be off for a half hour period.

I'll be at Brands and Donington, wanted to do Thruxton as well but I'm going to the Donington Historic Festival on the same weekend. I'll probably do Brands GP, Rockingham, Silverstone and Snetterton as they're all within a 2 hour drive for me - Croft/Knockhill/Oulton are a bit of a trek for me.
