Budget gaming build

Sorry to hear about the motherboard! Bad times indeed!

But it sounds that you've got a decent plan ahead! If i was you i would sell the cpu, making decent money on them and then if possible scrounge some more money from say a small job. Just make sure you have a decent budget... say around £450 and then ask for advice before buying anything... believe me the advice you get around here is superb! Then hopefully you will have an excellent build that will last you for a while!

Whatever you do don't rush into it and it may seem unrealistic for a kid of your age to save up that amount of money but its doable. It will be totally worth it in the end :D

That's my advice anyway!

Hex core = bad for gaming.

A Athlon II X3 445 will be more than enough (3 cores is considered sweet spot for gaming).

This little lot will do you nicely, trust me!

Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 High Performance CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/1155/1156/1366/939/AM2/AM2+)
(£20.82) £24.98

Sub Total : £116.63

Any left over money from your old stuff can be put towards a new graphics card, as your current one is very low spec!

You'll get there eventually OP, unlucky about your motherboard.

You do remind me of myself a bit when i was younger - only advice i can offer you really is don't get too caught up on the numbers you see on hardware as i noticed you refer to them several times in your posts. 6gig of ram isn't always better than 4 gig of ram. 800w Psu isnt always as good as a 550w psu.

It all depends on the make, quality and other various info. There was a time when i thought the only statistic i needed to know about a graphics card was how much memory it came with, if it was a 1 gig graphics card i thought it was automatically amazing etc. Not the case.

Best bet for you is to let us know your budget and ask for suggestions, or come up with a build yourself when your ready and link it on here as you see others do. No harm in asking for help on here as lots of knowledgable people willing to assist you!

I am going to sell my 2 quad core 2.33ghz cpu's and hopefully earn enough moeny to get a amd phenom xII hex core cpu GOOD MOTHERBOARD that will alow overclocking and 4gb ddr3, and maybye the collermaster v8gt cooler.
anyone any thoughts abou that?

1) Going AM3 is a better option than the dual xeon workstation you had before. Also more cost effective as you could get a dual or quad core Phenom II now and then upgrade to a hex core later, which would keep your initial cost down.

2) Its good to see someone building PCs at your age - although I started in computers when I was 12 (writing software on my Amstrad CPC464), I didn't build any hardware until I went to Uni.

3) I'm shortly upgrading my desktop from a Phenom II x2 550 to an x4 955, so if you do get an AM3 mobo you could have my old dual-core CPU for free. :D

sorry, ive been away from this post and the forums for a while.

So recently i sold my cpu's as a lot and only got £225 for them :0
but i also sold my set of beats solo Hd,
for £80 a bike headset and a
xbox 360 with a laser problem (witch ive fixed and now im selling)

Tonight i orderd the Lian li 2x 5.25 bay hotswap drive EX-H22B.
i also orderd Lian li vented pci slots and a new front case board, as i severd the other one to solder the motherboard, due to different conectors.

So my plans are, Wait till tuesday, buy a phenom x4 blck edetion, shipped from japan that has a garenteed to unlock to a x6 1705t witch runs stable at 3.5ghz witout overclocking.
Then i will wait till my birthday, 10th of april, where will ask for 2 1tb drives, after destrying my 2 300gb hard drives by droping them in use.
then i plan on getting the MSI 870A-G54 AMD 870 (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard
with 4gb of giel ddr3 1600mhz ram
and a akasa venom cooler.
and yes i sold my gpu and am plating to either get a turbo ati hd5770
or a XFX ATI Radeon HD 6850 Black Edition.
and yes i will have to save up and work and sell a lot, but i think ill have it done by the end of aprill.

Any thoughts?
Thankyou for youre support

bit risky ordering from japan zac....i hope you used a credit card for payment so you have some piece of mind.....i tend to shy away from buying goods straight from japan and china.....had a few bad experiences

look forward to seeing your new build

Hi Zac, funnily enough I'm also 14 (though not many people would have guessed). Been milling around on OcUK since 2005 when I was 8 and I received my uncles old Althon tbird system that came OcUK (3k back in the day - circa 2000) and went on the shop and browsed the forums ect, checking out AMD socket 939 chips which were all the rage back then! Just do research and you will be fine. Regarding your PSU, there are 2 main reasons why you should buy one from a decent brand:
1. High quality components (eg. Japanese caps). This in turn has the possibility to reduce heat and increase efficiency.
2. Stability (eg. the rails will have low noise and ripple and will supply the voltages to the specs)

Good luck in your future endeavours, and welcome to OcUK!

EDIT: Regarding your future build, I suggest keeping an eye on the Bit-Tech Hardware Buyer's Guide, especially the Affordable All-Rounder category.
