Building my first PC in screenshots

Someone with vast pc building knowledge in London should visit Otemu and give him a hand or watch him build it to see if there's anywhere he goes wrong because i feel quite sad just reading this and hope it turns out ok as you already have spent a lot on a pc.(wish i had the experience to help you in person but sadly i do not :( )

Could do with some extra pictures really:

1) motherboard standoffs attached to case
2) thermal paste (top of cpu and underside of heatsink)
3) closeup of ram (some people dont push down hard enough and end up with no ram connected)

Yeah I wish I hadn't visited this thread.

Anyway as I said cockups are bound to happen but there's nothing more exciting than building your own PC, so let's go easy on him.

Let's see if we can turn this round - @otemu my email is in trust - just click and I can guide you through it - Make your kids proud ' Daddy built us a computer !'

A quick tip before you go much further... work out which cables your mobo requires and how you will route them. It is likely that you will wish to route some of them behind the motherboard (the ones like HDD LED, PWR switch, Reset switch etc, maybe even USB and audio cables) They are typically the smallest diameter cables that can be easily routed behind the mobo which makes for less cables to cable tie for cable management later. Work out where these need to go so that you can place them in position (with tape if needed-they wont be in view) before you screw the mobo down onto its mounting points.

I'm sorry I posted first then realised this was a 5 page thread!! My advice above remains the same, but i'm sorry you've had trouble with your build.

I've built countless pcs and have had no such troubles and I have to say I've been quite blase about my components. I do however try to refrain from shuffling around my floor and only ever place my components on non-conductive services and get them out only when I'm ready for them.

wow lol u must have been buzzing

Well decieded to go for the drives instead of installing the motherboard, after struggling to fit the DVD drive into the top shelf, I went for the middle, maybe I missed something in the Lian Li instructions........

HDD slotted in nicely after I found out the locked lever, with the ancient cases I've dealt with in the pass this seems like a dream case.

dont u think the disk drive is a bit too slick for the tower??

when the board comes back to us it will go through our normal testing procedures.

to the OP

i urge you to post your order number along with a link to this thread in the customer support section of the forums.

i will do what i can to help when the motherboard arrives back with us :)

Probably too late, but maybe this guide might be useful.

I've been placing motherboards on its AS bag for years but my recent build it booted then quickly shut down. Found small burn holes on the plastic bag. But luckily after removing the AS bag & placing it directly on the box it booted & works fine. My theory is that maybe the PSU kicked into protection mode & stopped further damage
