Building My Own Computer.

Ahhh I see it now.

Your spec is at 742.99 ... but how about this:

What if he buys the 560ti SOC instead of the 480 ... but then he knocks off the value of the free games he gets.

He could get a few quid for the free games, maybe £5 each ? That's 15 quid back at least. I've actually just looked on my local trade-in shops website whilst writing this and they actually offer £12 cash trade for operation flashpoint red river !

Should fall under his budget doing that but hey if noise/heat isn't an issue for him then there's no point paying the extra the 480 will be absolutely fine. I personally though would rather have the quieter/cooler card. :) Personal choice.

A 6950 is a cool quiet card, and everyone in this thread seems to be suggesting it or a GTX480, you never know when the next killer game comes out that needs the ommphh.

Currently gone with this. Will all of these parts be compatible and work fine?

Nice choice on the graphics card OP:) dont get the 1GB version:) you can afford the best so why not have it.

Dude why are you just disagreeing with everything that 23JMZ07 says?

He made a fair point to save money, and your argument is ridiculous....

Apply your logic to the case/HDD rather than the difference between 1GB & 2GB 6950.

Everything is compatible and works fine.

Are you 100% on the case? its rather old now and at £50 is knocking on the door step of better cases.

for example,

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-000-XG&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=1572

Good choice on the graphics card, with the possibility of making a 6970 out of it.

Take the Antec 100 over the Antec 300 (or the HAF 912 if you wanna spend that money)
Use the money to go for a 1TB drive instead of the 500GB

Get this GPU instead

At your resolution you really are not going to use 2GB of VRAM.

A few things.

Case wise:

A friend is going to help build this. It was his first build and he used an Antec 300, do case-layouts change and how drastically?

What will the newer slightly more expensive cases provide/cater for?

GPU:

If I am running at 1680x1050 is it worth getting the 2GB version when I can save £30 and get the 1GB which sould be fine?

Also: I have no need for a 1TB harddrive, my current one is 320GB and I've only used 184GB in three years.

Theres been this argument before, the resolution is only half of it, when textures get bigger and more detailed they need more room, so the 1GB of Vram can get filled up, the graphics card is then having to shunt data across the bus.

An Antec 100 is virtually identical to the 300,

100 - http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?id=MjY5NA==

300 - http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?id=MTEzMQ==

the Antec 300 was £30-35 this time last year, why its gone up in price so much i dont know.

the more expensive cases have better cooling, more fans fitted as standard, they have better cable management.

And you may as well get the fastest graphics card you can afford, so you can max out all the settings, play Crysis:D

Listen to what cmndr_andi said, keep up with modern games for longer than a less powerful card

There is no way that you will EVER max out 1gb let alone 2 at that resolution.
Maybe in 5 years.

I would buy the 1gb, use the saved 20 quid to buy the HAF 912 :)

Its a good case for the price, the looks of a case are a personal choice, if the OP likes it, then its better deal than the Antec300

agree?

Anything is a better deal than the Antec 300..
Its not bad value I will agree but uck.. The elite series is known usually to be very modest in looks.

Also any review/promo done by an American bird with that type of voice is automatically invalid.

Yea, the CM 430 is a good case - "thermally advanced" as BigWayne used to say :)

To the OP: The Antec 100 is basically the new version of the 300. It is the same size, same number of included fans, has a cut-out for CPU cooler backplates, better routing for cables, an SSD mount and a black interior. The 300 is most likely more expensive than the 100 because a lot of people know it is good and recommend it to people - so the price has risen with increased demand (this case used to be £40 or less a year or so ago).
