Building Oblivion

*shrug* i'd wait till the next sale tbh. If you've waited this long to get Oblivion/Morrowind/Fallout 3 you won't lose anything waiting till Easter and the possibility of another sale on them.

I have Oblivion, Shivering Isle and Knights of the Nine + Minor DLC here, the only games i play that actually use a disc.

Honestly, when you come to install the game and have to **** around installing every single DLC seperately and patching it up you'd wish you just bought it on steam...

Thanks for putting this together, it helped me learn quite a bit about the mods.
Took me a day to install everything off your post then took another day hunting through mods to install on top ^^

A few things though. git doesnt work when any of your mod files have japanese / korean text. So after a few mods I was unable to use git anymore :(

Once I have all my mods etc installed can I simply copy the oblivion directory and thats it, it will all be backed up and I could take it else where and run it from the oblivion exe and all the mods would work?

It only seems to **** a brick when files are in Japanese, delete the one or two text files with it.

Thanks for taking your time to make this thread
I have recently switched from console gaming and have completed oblivion elders scrolls multiple times on both xbox and ps3.Its one of my favorites games of all time.
I am yet to purchase it on my new gaming pc but probably will once i have purchased my new gpu, this will defo come in handy when i do!

Thanks again,

Some of the texture files etc have japanese text in them, would that not break the mod if I renamed them?

Also anyone know whether I can copy the oblivion folder on its own which would function as a backup and not have to install anything again if I uninstall/reinstall it?

I am going to re-install Oblivion GOTY at some point and start compiling mods. I played through about 18 months ago with around 60 mods, but i didn't use Wrye Bash. I will follow this guide, and will probably ask for some advice:)

It still amazes me how good you can make this game look. It's nearly 4 years old!

Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE) v0019b

The next piece of the puzzle is OBSE, this is a plugin for the Oblivion engine that allows people to extend its functionality. This build uses it for a few different things, mainly to improve stability and enhance graphics.

It's trivial to install, just unzip into the Oblivion folder. The Steam version doesn't need anything else doing. Check the readme for a Disc based install as you might need to use the loader.

Now would be a good time to startup Oblivion to see if it's working; exit out of Oblivion and check your Oblivion folder. There should be an OBSE log file there, indicating all is working.
I unzipped into the oblivion folder using winrar, opened oblivion using the launcher (this is a disc install of the game), started a new game and quit before leaving my cell but I can't see any log file. Any ideas what I've done wrong?

edit- nm, forgot to patch oblivion to 1.2 something-or-other.

If you've kept snapshots along the process, then you should just be able to roll back to different points in time until you isolate it. Otherwise is it specific stuff or areas that it happens in?

with regards to your problem Ginger-Menace, correct me if i'm wrong sldsmkd, but i think that with some mods iirc you have to download a seperate texture pack which is not always made clear in the descriptions. Maybe you have missed one of them.
(you have probably already mentioned this, but i made the mistake with a few mods when i fist played it):)

quite possibly, haven't seen it myself so thats why it's best to try and isolate where the problem occurs - which should point at the naughty mod. worst i've seen is noble women with invisible bodies.
