I dont think it should be banned. Its just a piece of clothing at the end of the day.

But it should be removed in any circumstance where showing the face is normally mandatory or wearing crash helmets etc.

should we ban the wearing of bikinis too?
i mean, the idea of banning the burkha is because its considered a way to subjugate women into covering themselves up, thats its indoctrinated into women that they should do it.

however this article shows us that the sexualisation of children is concerning many, e.g. around products such as padded bras, playboy bunnies on pencil cases etc.

if you want to ban women because you believe they have been brainwashed to cover up, you have to in fairness do the same because they are being branswashed to uncover.

Totally agree. Ban both sorts of brainwashing.

Ban the burka (a non religious garment that women of an ethnic group are taught from birth is a nice normal way to dress) and ban the crap that stores are selling to sexualise our kids. Trying to buy an outfit for my 9 year old girl without her wanting the stuff that makes her look like a pre-teen hooker is quite testing.

Many moons ago a girl would sit at her mums dresser and borrow mums makeup, not they sell it at pocket money prices and the kids have their own. Hell, we bought our youngest a pair of Lelli Kelly shoes last year (she was 5 at the time) and the shoes come with a free compact of different coloured eye shadows, it was even part of the advertising! (The shoes were quite nice, the makeup seemed to get <ahem> lost...)

I'm muslim and I agree to banning the bruka. Its not even islamic ffs, women only did that when there was sand storms when they were travelling. Women should be wearing the hijab not the burka! But hey, people have the right to wear whatever they want.

That's interesting, so, the burka is not really a religious dress code?. And with regards to wearing whatever one wants to wear is true i suppose but there are limitations for some people of what they can actually wear in certain public places without impeding the law, and exceptions for others based on their religious code? rights?. All very confusing, what a mess this country is in.

All ugly women should wear Burkas...so i would like to see more of them, especially with summer coming up.

Thought I'd already voted for this. Voted no. I genuinely, honestly, absolutely, have more important things to worry about than what people wear.

I seriously think some of you would **** yourself if you ever walked down London's Edgware Road, let alone some of the more Muslim areas.

I'm strongly opposed to religions in any form. However, from what I'm led to believe, the Burka is not part of any religious dress code. It's merely a cultural thing with some questionable and undesirable connotations and while wearing it in public should be discouraged within our society, I see no reason to actually ban it!

Once you go down the route of banning certain garb, where does it end?
I'm fine with banning the Burka from public places, airports etc where public safety issues are concerned or could be compromised but, I'm also in favour of personal freedoms and a wholesale ban is counter-productive to everyone's personal freedom.

LOL took the words out of my mouth...i voted no and its a sad state of affairs to see a lot of you wanting the banning of the Burkha...is that really a democratic thing to do??..do we want to be as bad as the French are??...

Im totally with the idea that in public places ie banks etc etc, the women wearing the burkha should be asked to remove it, if not then kindly remove them from the premises.

As a muslim myself im no fan of the burkha, in fact i hate the sight of them and cant help but think why are they wearing such items of clothing.

Exactly, so forcing them not to wear it may be a start on the path to freedom for them. It may also cause them to be housebound, but I guess it could be worth the gamble.

Why force them??...is that really the path we want to take??...why not educate these women better so they dont feel the need to wear one??

Granted i know one muslim woman who wears it because she wants to and isnt forced to wear...her hubby is a very good friend of mine...in fact he was my first friend here when i moved here 20 odd yrs ago.

Still dont like it but each to their own...i think banning it is possibly the dumbest and most stupid of things to do...living in a democracy affords us the right to wear what we like as long as it doesnt cause moral ourtage or mass offense ie walking around public naked as the day you were born....any smart arse who thinks the burkha is offensive or causes moral outrage needs to step away from the keyboard and get out more:p.

exactly, a Muslim like myself also dislikes the view of the burka. Its not even religious lol. Its better to wear the hijab. look on page 9 for pics.

Leave people be, unless they are breaking the law then the assumption should be one of innocence and wearing a burka is not in itself dangerous.

I thought I already voted in this thread however......what is going on?
