Burns Night - Haggis!

Yeah if you're having problems get a better knife. I di like using Chinese veg type choppers in hard root veg, straighter blades easier to put hand in and force down.

Really need to find some good haggis, need to eat more offal. Find it over powering on it's own but haggis, faggots, pate and steak and kidney pudding do offal justice.

What is this heathen talk of 'making' haggis? Surely the only way to make a haggis is to get a mummy haggis and a daddy haggis who love each other very much .........

I wasn't overly impressed with my Ramsay one, it was a bit bland. Stan, what are the Crombies haggis like?

Shh. Not in front of the children.

The Crombies haggis are pretty decent actually - seems to be decent quality ingredients well reared beasts. I prefer mine a bit spicier but proper spicy haggis is becoming increasingly difficult to find sadly.

I'm doing a 'Burns Night' dinner tomorrow:

Scallop, Haggis, Neeps and Bacon stack
Ox Cheek braised in Fraoch Ale, served with mash, glazed carrots and Green beans
Rhubard 'crumble'

Just put the Ox Cheeks on now.

Made some haggis soup with some remains last night and it was actually rather good!

Fried some onion, garlic and bacon lardons for about 10 minutes
Added the haggis remains and constantly stirred for 5 minutes.
A handful of cherry tomatoes and stirred for another 5 minutes.
Vegetable stock added and then some spinach and simmered for another 10 minutes.
Cooled, blended re-heated - a little salty but otherwise very nice!

Burns Night again today and I'm having free range haggis from Crombies in Edinburgh as recommended by @Stan_Lite.

I'm quite sure I've got plenty of Scottish gins so it'll be accompanied by a Scottish G&T (I can't drink whisky).

Yep, haggis tonight, only have it around or on Burns night, i'm off work today so for once I'm having it on the night.

I have potatoes and swede and normally some green veg and gravy with mine.

Oh and I have whisky as well:D

Definitely!

Eat haggis quite regularly during the year, & usually go out for Burns night, but obviously can't this year.
Will be having a cheeky 12 year old single malt to go with it as well :D

We eat it quite often during the year - It's not an attractive food to photograph though!

Whenever I get to Edinburgh, I always manage to get a haggis supper from the Clamshell. I'm sure @Muban would approve :)

Not for me, it no longer agrees with me. Used to have it with Black pudding. Delicious.

Having checked the whiskey situation, its all Irish so I'll open some lovely old (1978) Benriach samples I got for my 40th.

It's not local! I'm not driving all the way to Scotland from Essex to go haggis hunting.
You'll have to settle for hunting locally, then... It's all free range though, so should be perfectly good.
Try and find somewhere where the haggises will have fed on heather, as they'll at least taste fairly Scottish.

Of course, who wouldn't approve of a haggis supper?

Nice, I might not go to heavy on the gravy this time, I normally smother it in gravy but that really takes away all the flavours from everything else.
Gravy? I just don't even know what to say :p
