Buying the console you want vs the one everyone else wants...

So,

When Playstation One was around I didn't really have a console. I got PS2 on launch day and loved it, also got an Xbox later on.

For the next generation I loved my Xbox 360, I have a PS3 now too but Xbox 360 in my eyes was the best console out of the 2 by some way.

Now we're on to the next, next gen. I really want an Xbox One because of the 360 and how well the online performed. Titanfall is the only exclusive I'm looking forward too.

I know there's all this resolution debate at the moment but I think that's just short term and eventually developers will get their heads round Xbox One.

Problem is I'm all about multiplayer and rarely play single player games. ALL my friends are getting PS4, literally every single one.

So right now so am I and I'm not getting an Xbox One.

Anyone else buying the console everyone else wants rather than the one they want?

There will always be a big gap, the specifications are near 50% or so in the PS4's favour, ROPS, Tflops, Shaders, Ace queues you name it.

The XB1 is an embarrassment and I think anyone who isn't absolutely crazy about an exclusive is insane to get one.

I've been told by literally everyone that I come across that I'm crazy for pre-ordering the X1 (for all the reasons you all know) and I did think about it for a while but then just reminded myself about how much fun I have with a particular exclusive and decided xbox one it is.

Maybe although when I look at BF4 if you took away the names of the consoles on the comparison video I'm not sure I could notice a difference.

Development wise I'd say Xbox One will be fine long term. At the end of the day Forza is in 1080p so no reason other games won't be.

*edit* I understand resolution isn't the be all and end all when it comes to performance.

Im in the exact same boat. I own 360 and PS3 and I prefer the xbox experience more. I'm trying to love the playstation...largely due to the free games you get every month...but I'm finding it very hard.

Heart says xbox one...brain says ps.

Obvious answer, buy both;).

no matter what camp you are in most of us will end up buying them both in their lifetime :D

Just no exclusives interest me on the xbox1 enough to buy it. So my money goes to the ps4 which I prefer and will support from launch

Whereas I think anyone writing off a console for it's entire lifetime based on a few numbers pre launch is insane. There are plenty of people who don't care about things like that, I haven't owned a PC capable of gaming for probably about 5 years and I genuinely have no idea what the hell ROPS, Tflops, Shaders, or Ace queues are.

I enjoyed the overall experience on the 360, I really didn't like anything to do with the PS3 be it the OS or the controller. I did own one and it barely got used so it's a very simple decision for me.

I also seem to be one of the few people who is glad the Kinect is in the box and really don't care about an extra £80 to get it (and FIFA now). I paid over £100 for the original one so £80 is a bargain!

Personally i would get the console you want and not worry about your friends but i play mainly single player games. If however you are worried then hold of buying anything for six months. You will avoid the higher launch price and the normally poor quality of launch games and have a better idea how both console perform.

If I were in your shoes I would get the console YOU like. I'm probably like you I play more multiplayer games than singleplayer and if all my friends were getting a ps4 I would still stick with the X1 (because it's the one I like). Luckily most are getting the X1 or sticking with the 360 for a few more years.

Obviously that's just me, but after so many good years with the 360 I can't see myself getting a ps4 for at least another 2 years when there's a nice price drop and some exclusive games worth buying.

As I don't game online with a particular group of friends I've never had to worry about getting the same console as everyone else. That's why I've always looked at new consoles objectively and got the one that I wanted. I always end up with the majority of consoles anyway, so it normally comes down to a choice of which one to get first.

And I think people who continually bring up the power debate in threads that aren't even about that are rather sad, but what do I know.

an embarressment :roll eyes: how do you come to this conclusion ? have you played both ? do you have a crystal ball to look into the future ?

Controller wise I loved the 360 and hated PS3.

Having tried both new ones I really like the PS4 controller, the improvements are massive. Xbox One is fairly similar although build wise I think PS4 edges it this time.

I think I'll get PS4 to start and maybe Xbox One when Titanfall releases.

I'll be jealous of anyone getting a Xbox One on 22nd November though!

XBOX ONE for me no question

Multi platform games will be developed for the lowest denominator, xbox one

Exclusives don't matter as they can't be compared from a graphics perspective

XBOX One has a hardware upscaler, so games running at 720p upscaled to 1080p will have the higher frame rate

Kinect, who wants a pink and blue light on the top of their controller for motion tracking?

No Cloud support on PS4
No MP3 / DLNA on PS4
No TV Integration on PS4
No Win8 Apps on PS4 (XBOX Music and PLEX!!!!!!)
No Hollywood backing on PS4 (TV exclusives)

so ask yourself, why on earth would anyone want a PS4?

Microsoft will pump millions into xbox to make sure it's a hit, you know what they're like. Since these consoles are going to last ten years, I want one which I feel has better future development
