Buying the console you want vs the one everyone else wants...

I pick up the console I want, not fused about what everyone else has.

I own over 35 game console, from the 8 bit era uptil current gen. Buying the XB1 and PS4 on launch which should take my console collection into the 40s.

XBOX ONE for me no question

Multi platform games will be developed for the lowest denominator, xbox one

Exclusives don't matter as they can't be compared from a graphics perspective

XBOX One has a hardware upscaler, so games running at 720p upscaled to 1080p will have the higher frame rate

Kinect, who wants a pink and blue light on the top of their controller for motion tracking?

No Cloud support on PS4
No MP3 / DLNA on PS4
No TV Integration on PS4
No Win8 Apps on PS4 (XBOX Music and PLEX!!!!!!)
No Hollywood backing on PS4 (TV exclusives)

so ask yourself, why on earth would anyone want a PS4?

Microsoft will pump millions into xbox to make sure it's a hit, you know what they're like. Since these consoles are going to last ten years, I want one which I feel has better future development

For me it is whichever one performs best. Frame rate issues aka "a general feeling of jerkiness" that the PS3 exhibits in some multiplatform games is just horrible. Which is why I was over the moon when GTA V on PS3 had no such issues.

I would have originally said it would be down to the controller as that's the main interface with the system but I've played Mass Effect 3 on PS3 with the 360 controller and it's one of those games with the wonky frame rate so I never enjoyed it on that platform.

Pretty much all of those sound like positives for the PS4 really lol.

Cloud support - I don't care.
MP3 / DLNA - I don't care/PC can handle this.
TV Integration - I don't care, my TV/Sky/PC cater for my TV requirements.
Win8 apps - What idiot would want these anyway?
Hollywood backing - I can't think of any Hollywood backed games that have been any good anyway?

All of the above suggests to me that they are focusing on making it a better gaming machine rather than trying to cram in pointless features, which is a massive plus to actual gamers.

Having said that, I'd suggest that everyone gets the console that they find most appealing, rather than what massively biased people on the internet are telling you to get.

My personal favourite was the quote about the hardware scaler.

1 because he seems to think it somehow gives him more FPS and 2 because he fails to realise that it's the same hardware scaler that's inside the PS4's GPU and every other AMD GPU in that family :p

I'd go for what your friends are getting. Or jus wait a little bit and see what you think after they get them.

Too many people buy based on previous experience - but this has zero bearing on the next release so doing so is a bit daft IMO.

I mostly only play multiplayer with my friends too and we all go together before our usual Sat night and went through the pros/cons and decided on the PS4.

I love single player games, don't get me wrong but there just isn't that many quality ones and multiplayer games are a great way to bridge the gap between good quality single player titles. Playing online with friends I've known all my life is of paramount importance to me.

I prefer the PS4 anyway luckily at the minute but will pick up an X1 later for the exclusives if enough of them are X1 only and don't come to PC.
But even if I preferred the X1, I'd get the PS4 if mates were.

If you think the PS4 sounds terrible, then get the one you want...but the fact is that they both have plenty to offer and neither is miles better than the other so playing online with friends is the way to go.

Nobody likes to play with random idiots

If you really want an XB1 but you're buying a PS4 because of your mates then the only ideal solution is to find a way to buy both.

Or make new friends. :D

I'd say you've answered this question yourself - your an online multiplayer gamer only so specs and everything else amount to nothing of interest. Get what your mates get - simples.

I would stick with your friend's choice unless you want to try create a new group to play with by using forums etc for the XB One. I'm unsure what most of my friends are getting, although I know a few getting a PS4.

So many trolls in here, nobody has been able to disprove any part of my post lol

No Cloud support on PS4 - lies.
No MP3 / DLNA on PS4 - already been announced they will add it in to PS4.
No TV Integration on PS4 - errr - USA only - no use here in the UK
No Win8 Apps on PS4 (XBOX Music and PLEX!!!!!!) - REALLY!?! - what would the world be without facebook on a full screen....
No Hollywood backing on PS4 (TV exclusives) - more tv crap - got a TV for that thanks - I want a games console - not a jack of all trades and master of none ;)
