Bye Bye Game!

the GAME shop near me is appauling for pc game selection.. and accessory wise too, Nothing pointed towards the PC gamer...
like the OP said, its all about pre-owned games in there, which they are now starting to get stuck on because of the Pass code that EA have started using etc...

I must admit, in GAME stores, i have often seen silly wrong prices put up. A while back my other half wanted to buy GTA4 for her ps3.. it was £19.99 for a pre-owned copy and £15 for a brand new copy of the same game. i even went up to the desk and told them they made a mistake, and they said "no, no mistake, its priced by our database" i was like WTF???
Often ive seen silly games in there like Fifa 09 for 99p, and then you see Fifa 07 in there right behind it, a 2 year older game for like £1.99... they are soo screwed up..

GAME store around here can be quite appauling.

When Black ops was released on midnight launch, i went out for midnight to get it, i had pre-ordered it on pc a couple of months back before that, and it clearly stated on my reciept "PC".. so midnight came, i handed my pre-order reciept, just to hear "oh sorry our computers showing as no one pre-ordering it on pc here", when i know full well i did... Then with MW3, they gave me the PC game, but with Xbox 360 intel pack....

I must admit, i will be sad to see GAME go, as although the workers are a bit slow on things, i love game shops, and sometimes you can pickup a pc game cheaper in there than it is on steam or origin, which is good.. WHEN they have got that pc game there...

The pricing is set by a huge amount of factors, They probably had a load of stock in the back or in the warehouse that they need to get through so that automatically lowers the price of the title, It doesn't matter if it's fifa09 or 07, All the system looks at is that there are 14000 fifa 09 stuck in a warehouse somewhere so the price gets floored, It's the same at my place

back in the ps1 days game shops were 80% PC, they even sold grpahics cards and sound cards at one time

I forgot that! I used to love going into Electronics Boutique to check out the latest kit, those 16mb graphics cards used to seem so advanced at the time. Remember how PC games used to be sold in boxes?

I have Tomb Raider 1 and Total Annihilation big boxes, sadly lost my TA disks but still got the disk for TR 1 :D

Remember going into Tesco to buy the TR 1 box :)

Guess I missed my window to buy cheap, looks like the rumours of the 11p offering from Gamestop helped things.

Game in Metrocentre is starting to look sprser and sparser.
They do have the new Alice: Madness Returns @4.99

Used up my Game vouchers yesterday. Felt very sorry for the staff who were helpful and proffesional. Wanted to say something along the lines of 'Good luck' but didn't.

I hope they manage to find a solution / buyer, but very doubtful in this market and with the fact that supermarkets and the webstores will always have the upper hand.

Other than rumours of interest in buying them the last i read was an article today saying that both activision and microsoft are refusing them stock now too.

Did something else happen?

Goldman Sachs bought quite a few shares in them and their share price has picked up.

A short term rise so still rocky waters.

high street is dead man...

Seriously! I've been in the high streets of two different towns this week, mid-morning, and I can't believe how quiet they both were! Loads of empty units that used to be shops, too. Kind of depressing.
