*******C.A.R.S - Community Assisted Race Sim*********

I got this yesterday and have to say it's a great way to spend £9 or whatever it was. It's still very rough, but I expected no less and it's going to be really interesting to see how this develops over the months. I was having a great time driving the 86 turbo f1 car around Bathurst with no assists, the sound of the turbo spooling up is addictive but you also have to hold on tight to control it :)

Does it have tyre deformation (during braking, accelerating, turning)?

Also, is it all racing cars or does it have road legal "normal" cars - at least somthing like an M3 or Elise?

i just tried this on my new setup with 3 screens.

runs like a absolute dog turned every thing to low and off and still only get 60fps and it looks horrendous.

thats on gtx580 sli 1.5gb, 2600k @ 4.5 and 8gb ram...

just tried it again using the proper exe this time..

getting about 45 fps now with a mix of high/med settings..

still dont like the feel to this game...

rf2 and iracing feel better but after all this is stil pre alpha so they still can improve but they have a long way to go imo...

I haven't tried this yet because most of the feedback I've read suggests it still has an aweful lot of Shift 2 DNA in it which is not a good thing, from mushy handling right down to the bug where setup values are reversed. Like Shift 2 the graphics look nice though

Shift 2 is the best semi-sim/semi-arcade game you can get for a steering wheel. Grid is better for jpypad. The graphics are great and I wish project CARS had its car selection!
Physics is what it is supposed to be- semi-sim/semi-arcade (Shift2's I mean).

I have to say that build 149 is very very good. They are pulling out all the stops trying to get the FFB feel right and it's definitely getting there.

It's nothing like Shift 2 now in terms of FFB and handling.

Build 149 also includes Le Mans for the first time, I think.

pCARS doesnt share a single bit of physics code from shift or shift 2. in October there was a small amount of low level suspension code that was reused temporarily, but even that has gone now.

i think i might make a thread asking the mods to spread the word about this a bit more, because you must be the 9817263489612th person who has said they dont want the game because its the same as shift

ps, this isnt meant to be an insult to you in any way, i'm just getting slightly annoyed at the number of people who think shift = pcars and think something needs to be done about this

I don't believe that for a second Reaper. There is so much about this game that is a carbon copy of SHIFT2. Granted there is a lot that isn't, but to say there is only a little, let alone none, is just an outright lie.

you can believe what you want, its a fact that pCARS and shift share at most some low level suspension code for physics. it was confirmed by one of the devs early on. short of decompiling CARS and shift there is no way of proving one way or the other, so you'll just have to be happy with the devs word for this.

graphics wise it wouldnt surprise me if they shared a lot of code, but i dont have any problems with that

what might be the case is that shift and pCARS use the same model for the tyres, coded differently with many altered parameters for cars of course

even if it does share something with shift2 what does it matter? as long as its the good/working stuff who cares? easier for devs to get the good/working code out instead of rewriting everything :) in my eyes the final product is what will matter to me.. this alphas/betas/test blah is just to "feel" the direction the game is heading to :) and in my eyes its the right direction :)
