what AA are you using? also, do you use driver AA or any injected stuff?

i know that the in game FXAA can make the details much too blurry, but there might be other settings with the same side effect

I downloaded the FXAA injector but I don't think it's working, so I have MLAA on. I tried MSAAx8 but it was the same, and the higher ones (like SMAA or whatever) made it more blurry...

I know it's work in progress and all but the new rain effects look terrible.

yeah, they look like icicles hammering down rather than rain drops. they need to be much smaller, have way more of them (depending on conditions) and be a much duller grey/blue colour rather than bright white

its only been a few days and already things are looking a million times better:

as usual i havent posted the pictures because they are very WIP (and taken before the "particle wall" bug was fixed)

have a look at this: http://www.wmdportal.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/WMD_Overview_160212.pdf
Page 30 explains the returns for people 'investing'.

Once they hit the 3.5m euro they need for development, they'll close the door on 'investments' so everyone will be locked in at that level, and all that will be available is upgrading to the €45 point, and theres no return on that, just the €25 amount. You'd be a €25 investor. So once you've had a go, if you see its promise then it kinda makes sense to commit to the final game payment.

Have a dig through the PDF, theres quite a bit of info in there, and if theres anything your unsure of theres still the forum you can ask questions on. I know what you mean about it being hard to see whats going on with it being private, you want to get a feel for what your investing into and they're hiding a key element.
For me, just following the progress and seeing things build up and then get added to the game, its a unique experience in an area were excited about, and its nice to be part of that on there.
So basically, I pay €45 and get the full version. If they sell 1m units over the 4 platforms. I'll get €220 return (based on their example of 150 people per tool level)?

Well, technically yes, and if they sell 10m on each platform you'll get even more :D

Looking at it as an money making investment, is probably going to be stupid.
IMO, theres 2 sensible ways of looking at it -
1) It'll be a great game, worth the €45 paid for it, and as a bonus with a bit of luck it'll return around the same amount invested, making it almost a free game.
2) Your buying a €45 game knowing you'll get most of that back around 12-18mo after release, and that makes it better value to you.

Theres no 3) invest, race, get rich quick.

VGCharts is the best place to get sales figures from, and they list Shift 2 as having sold 0.9m copies (that could be at full price or heavily discount) over the 3 platforms, EA dispute their figures, and SMS have claimed they're grossly inaccurate because they dont account for ever possible point of sale, including digital distribution.
However... they dont seem to kick up a fuss with their BF3 stats, so they seem happy with glowing sales figures, but deny poor sales. They *may* have a point, i dont know, but console sales dominate PC sales, and i doubt many paid full RRP via XBL & PSN rather than store prices, so im not sure how skewed their results could be.

However, over 150 racing games have sold over 1m copies on a single platform, and 1m sales over 4 should return the full investment. Yet Shift 2 sold less than that over 3 platforms (by VGCharts reportings) and they had EAs muscle and a globally recognised brand, with those 2 they have advertising power, a recognisable brand so people pay more attention, and a fair budget to keep reminding people of it. pCARS wont have tv ads, billboards, magazine spreads etc. It'll have word of mouth.
So god only knows which way it'll go, but if they make a fantastic game it'll certainly help, make a good to average one and it may struggle getting interest/acknowledgement, Shift2 has a respectable Meta score (80+).

Heres a list of racing titles that have sold over 1m copies:
http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=&publisher=&platform=&genre=Racing&minSales=1&results=200
Only 1 title in the top 10 was multiplatform, and that was #10 NFSU.

Those are all per-platform, not over all platforms, but surprisingly theres not many multi-platform racing games that have had the same success as a lot of exclusive titles, which is quite surprising in itself i think.

Maybe it can sell multiple millions of copies, but i certainly wouldnt buy the game based on the preconception that it will. Consider it a bonus that they'll hopefully return your full investment and make it a game you've seen grow, played heaps, enjoyed it, and got your money back too.

what happened to this game? Not many posts here lately, just saw a few screenshots and interested in getting it.

I haven't tested the last few downloads as it just seems to be getting slower and slower for me. The AI is also a joke right now so apart from hot lapping there's not much to do.

I also signed up for the six months free iRacing offer but after about three races I got bored.
It takes too long to find a damn race, I don't want to sign up for a race next week sometime.

90% of the posts in here are pointing out theres a new patch out which has [insert exciting feature] in there.

Theres been a lack of exciting features added in recent updates, just minor ones which is typically what you'd expect to see.
That, plus the fact that the best place to talk about it is in their forum, rather than in here.

The BMW Z4 GT3 in its VERY early state, and i think the M1 Procar too, should be in tomorrows build using very generic ffb, sound & whatnot. Purely added early because its been a bit dull i guess, drum up more interest in the game.
Should be a near complete shell with the rest being rough estimates, but even with inaccurate settings im sure it'll still be a lot of fun.

yeah, there's been sod all to report update wise because they're working on really big stuff right now. with pretty much any banter about the game being posted on the WMD forum this thread has been neglected.

Paul, you forgot about the biggest feature coming to the fridays junior+ build: Ghost racing. they'll be opaque for now because they're an early WIP but its better than nothing :)

next milestones will be the dev only multiplayer at the start of october and the completely new AI around that time too

perhaps with the ghost racing we could get an OcUK time attack going if anyone's willing to get it organised

*edit*
wow, that was early. the friday junior build is out already. the great news is that its only a patch so no silly long downloads :)

Huh? At the rookie level races are every hour, and 99% of them go official?

I only saw one race last night that I could have gotten into without buying more content.

Maybe I'm not looking in the right place, in Hosted/Join a race right now there are only two races listed neither will allow me in.

I do see the race now option but a part from practice once or twice there was no one there.

More likely to get the help you need from the iRacing thread or iRacing's own forum.

aha, now i realise why the build was out so quick. there's a bug with the current junior build where the BMWs are locked for everyone except managers

there will be a new junior+ build later today once thats fixed :)

*edit*
apparently the nurburgring is massively bugged to, but should still be fixed tomorrow. no idea why they released this build early

The M1 is awesome, just been playing the the GT3 and M1 around Donington and they both feel very nice to drive, the power delivery of the M1 is lovely... Shame these are just placeholder physics because to me they are currently the nicest handling cars in the "game"

It's probably something iv'e pressed or something iv'e ticked.

Every race I start, no matter what position I place my self on the grid, no matter what track or the number of opponents, when the race starts, I'm always in the pit garage.

Is this a bug or have I done something wrong?

I can start driving before the lights turn green, but start in the pit lane, which is really annoying.

Any ideas?

Im hardly suggesting you sell all your possessions and stick it into pCARS :D

Im just pointing out, once you've played it, if your confident that you'll end up buying the finished product, then it makes more sense to pay the full €45 as an 'investor' than €25+20.

It costs the same amount, but you'll only get a return on the amount invested. If you've invested double (as good as) then you'll get more of that back. *IF* it sells 1m copies, then one would return €45, the other returns €25.
If it sells just 1 copy, and theres no return, its cost you no more either.

Incase anyones wondering, Shift 2 sold just less than 1m copies on 3 platforms, and thats with the marketing budget EA has, and the recognisable brand NFS has. Also, for every person who's invested 45€ or more, they wont be a customer, that sale funded the game and gave a free copy, it cant then be a sales figure. So these are sales after release, which may well have say 10,000 people with free or discounted copies and they wont be going out an buying it.
Shift 2s total also probably includes discounted sales, i suspect pCARS is based on full price (what the distributer pays for it).

No, its not an investment, but investing will give a return, and if you're convinced you'll be buying it, you stand to get more back from putting the full €45 down, even if thats only €5.

I already got full member at 45€.
