*******C.A.R.S - Community Assisted Race Sim*********

Thinking of getting this but would want to know more info first (it's a bit annoying the forums are locked out until you cough up)!

Does it work with a 360 controller? Like, is it playable?
Will it perform OK on a i7 860 @ 3.7GHz, ATI 7870 @ 1920 *1080?
I don't really understand the Fees business. Will I be charged more than the 25€ for a team membership, until I chose to buy the game?

I am severely lacking a recent PC racing sim so I hope this is good!

Yes. You can also turn on/off assists to make it as playable as you choose.

Yes it will run fine. Though there are no optimisations yet and some tracks run better than others. The original aim was to be able to run the game on a single GTX 470 upon release.

You will only be charged for the tool pack you buy. Any upgrades you choose to buy in the future will charged at the displayed price.

360 controller works well and your spec should run it nicely too.

I'm not sure what you'r asking regarding the payment system. I bought the team membership for 25 euros which allows access to weekly builds. If you chose to buy the full game when it's released you pay the extra, so about 15 or 20 quid on top of your team membership cost.

Ive no idea about controllers, but its intended for the console market too, and there are quick pad users, so short term i suspect its fine, and long term they'll have to make it as good as any other sim because it'll be lined up against them on consoles where its the primary form of control.

Specs, your more than fine on that. I run on near enough full settings on a single 6870, full grid and unrealistically fast moving/generating clouds, and the game hasnt really been optimised yet, that gets done when things are closer to final in that area, rather than while its still considered WIP as things are changing it'd be wasting time to optimise it. I get 55-60fps @ 2048x1152, so you'll be just fine.

The €25 package gives you access to everything available, but it would also mean you'd need to upgrade to the €45 at some point if you wanted the final product.
If you dont, you should get the 25 back from its sales, it might take a year for that though, and its not a guarantee.

Aah that exlains the fees that the T&Cs were on about! I was thinking I would have to pay 70% of the value at launch if I wanted the full game... But Paul made it much clearer, cheers :D

Page 30 explains the returns for people 'investing'.

Once they hit the 3.5m euro they need for development, they'll close the door on 'investments' so everyone will be locked in at that level, and all that will be available is upgrading to the €45 point, and theres no return on that, just the €25 amount. You'd be a €25 investor. So once you've had a go, if you see its promise then it kinda makes sense to commit to the final game payment.

Have a dig through the PDF, theres quite a bit of info in there, and if theres anything your unsure of theres still the forum you can ask questions on. I know what you mean about it being hard to see whats going on with it being private, you want to get a feel for what your investing into and they're hiding a key element.
For me, just following the progress and seeing things build up and then get added to the game, its a unique experience in an area were excited about, and its nice to be part of that on there.

play the game buy a team member as if you just buy a retail game. dont go in as a investment . you are hardly going to get anything if you even get anything at all.

This

I bought team membership just to get early access to a neat looking racing game and only have to pay a little extra further down the line when the full game is released. Personally I don't buy into the investment thing at all.

Im hardly suggesting you sell all your possessions and stick it into pCARS :D

Im just pointing out, once you've played it, if your confident that you'll end up buying the finished product, then it makes more sense to pay the full €45 as an 'investor' than €25+20.

It costs the same amount, but you'll only get a return on the amount invested. If you've invested double (as good as) then you'll get more of that back. *IF* it sells 1m copies, then one would return €45, the other returns €25.
If it sells just 1 copy, and theres no return, its cost you no more either.

Incase anyones wondering, Shift 2 sold just less than 1m copies on 3 platforms, and thats with the marketing budget EA has, and the recognisable brand NFS has. Also, for every person who's invested 45€ or more, they wont be a customer, that sale funded the game and gave a free copy, it cant then be a sales figure. So these are sales after release, which may well have say 10,000 people with free or discounted copies and they wont be going out an buying it.
Shift 2s total also probably includes discounted sales, i suspect pCARS is based on full price (what the distributer pays for it).

No, its not an investment, but investing will give a return, and if you're convinced you'll be buying it, you stand to get more back from putting the full €45 down, even if thats only €5.

couple of big bits of dev news i've seen dotted around the forums. we can expect the first implementation of the all new AI in late September/early October if all goes well and the first dev only build of multiplayer in a few weeks time, so hopefully we will get the first multiplayer a few weeks after that

So I decided to jump into this again, and it's awesome as ever, however i've noticed there is a slight blur to everything in game? Even when it opens I can see that the pop-up saying "press shift+tab for steam overlay" is blurred?

it might not be playing nicely with steam. i cant see what steam could do to it but its well known that simply having the Nvidia 3D vision drivers installed gives some people silly low framerates

So basically, I pay €45 and get the full version. If they sell 1m units over the 4 platforms. I'll get €220 return (based on their example of 150 people per tool level)?

Hm frames im not having a problem with, but the blur isn't caused by Steam, it's the same without it :(

what AA are you using? also, do you use driver AA or any injected stuff?

i know that the in game FXAA can make the details much too blurry, but there might be other settings with the same side effect

if you think you going to get 220 back off a 25 euro investment pass the bong :p
