for those looking to play historic spa, someone posted a helpful hint:

*edit*
yup, works. just click madly around there while you have eifelwald (nurburgring nordschleife) selected and you get spa historic. Dont know if it works when something else is selected though

arknor historic spa circuit looks decent.

i only went against the video you posted as you said there were no trickery yet it was obvious how it had been edited.

what ive been trying to get across is sell the game as it is a possibly great driving game from the playing view .

99 percent of what you show are weird angle shots or fancy movie type trailors which most of the time dont show how you will actually play the game.from bonnet cam or steering wheel. why is this hard to understand ?

from now on i wont pull your posts to bits ill just put up new videos showing the correct driving view that players will see when they pay for the game so they have a good idea what to expect.

this way players will see exactly what is what and not how a bump or engine looks at 86degrees with rain on :p

Heres a video I made ages ago by holding numpad 4+2

It is my preffered driving view
Oh wait that's replay footage and according to you some CGI trickey happens on replays.
BTW odd video because it was from ages ago when we were talking about the car movement's not looking fluid/natural enough

anyway hopefully tecman with no vested interest in the game borrowing my login will give his opinions and views on the state of the game in the next couple of days, he has no reason other than to tell it how it is.
It's a pitty he doesn't own a wheel though

this way players will see exactly what is what and not how a bump or engine looks at 86degrees with rain on
the leaves on the track look awesome when the rain is on if you ctrl+f and zoom in on them :D you can see the individual veins in the leaf and everything

BTW tecman
Make sure you try some of the custom skins you can download on the forum
http://forum.wmdportal.com/forumdisplay.php?68-pCARS-Vehicles-Custom-Paints-Download-Database

There are some really awesome looking ones and they are much higher res than the games default liveries
such as this one

He's using the HDR Hable Filmic filter to get the game looking like that btw, maybe an option DG is missing if his graphics look nowhere near as good as everyone else :P

i'm playing now its downloaded... Found my favorite. classic Lotus. Superb modelling looks fantastic, racing around spa with a gamepad once its to a setting I can actually control the car as phew, its twitchy but got it dialed in and wow... What is there is impressive..

but its lacking so much, you can tell its alpha stage. Its got hardly any presentation to it, its raw. Its a raw racing game, no polish other then the cars, and some of the tracks.

Seen quite a few glitches.. disappearing mirrors, shadows going funny, strange flickering in places, but what is there and is good, is good..!!

This has potential to be a very good racing title. Not seen texture pop up for a while, guess that'll be resolved in future updates...

but the classic f1 lotus around spa was truly epic... I'll be sad when monday comes and i'll not be able to play anymore..

Lets up it this way, if I can get an account I'd pay for one, no question.

Sure DG has got reasons for dislike.. Do think he goes on a little too much, and sure in places its well rough... But its an alpha, and it certainly has potential..

Wish I'd got a wheel, gamepad seems to hold up well though, its actually better handling wise then Shift 2...

Oh and sweetfx does make a big difference..

its cause i dont want them to just do what a lot of games do with such potential and just make do or give up to console preference.

this has the chance to be one of the best pc driving games ever !

only if the handling is really focused on.

so its not all gloom from me i really want it to do its best. sometimes people need to be pushed to get this.

what AA mode are you using? some of them are buggy and they are being worked on a lot, they just removed a bunch of different msaa settings
You might find less bugs in dx9 and the game looks exactly the same pretty much

DS2x worked fine for me, I didn't use the ingame fxaa/smaa extra stuff maybe that could be causing some of the graphics glitches you see
HD photographic looks best for me btw , hable filmic looks pretty epic at the sunset times though

I'll be sad when monday comes and i'll not be able to play anymore..
You can play it until the 8th of April if you want.

Fantastic... I've set to DS2x and set shadows to medium, not only did that give a nice fps boost but its also stopped the flicker.

The Lotus 98T round the nurburgring is quite frankly amazingly good. I've never seen the ring look and move so quickly in a video game before..

The cars now its no longer flickering look heavier, and feel more planted to the track.. I've tried the day cycle trick you mentioned, game looks very nice early mid morning, you can tell the difference.. Monza in the wet was really good...The rain is very good.

Monza, Spa and nurburgring are all without doubt got some stunning visuals.

DG has said it has potential to be the best racing game for a long time, it does.. I agree. If they can package this up into something like what GT5 gives you, then it'll be happy days for PC gamers who long for a GT5 or Forza game for PC..

Do any of you guys drift? I've always been a massive drifting fan but the early builds of this were god awful for it and that left a bitter taste in my mouth. If a physics engine can't model the extremes of grip well like drifting (it was very snappy which felt really weird- it would slid then decide this is what sliding is and either hold that exact angle 10% of the time or snap wildly around the other 90%) then it always worries me as to what it can actually do. A good physics engine needs to work as a consistent sandbox for me otherwise there will always be little niggles during gameplay that make it impossible to enjoy.

I have got around to installing the latest build but I'm a little engrossed in my F1 2012 season and that's been eating up all my PC time.

I was fancying a go at this but my pc wasn't up to spec at the time, now I'm upgraded enough to give it a shot I can't, I made a forum account way back but no tool pack!

It does look really good from what I've seen, I've got enough to be getting on with for the time being so I'm sure I can wait until it's finished and enjoy it properly.

Well open wheel is impressive, the lotus open wheel is without doubt well optimised and extremely playable, and i've been enjoying some real frantic and excellent open wheel racing, even with a 360 gamepad...

the road and GT however, I've tried the races using the AI, its not ready but its nice to throw a car around the track in time trial and look around.. The LOD on cars disappears, i've seen cars with only four wheels and nothing else, cars totally disappear and then re-appear...

if they get the entire game to the same level as open wheel, this has massive potential..

but that graphics, the level of detail for the cars is amazing... Sadly, fps can totally tank for now reason at times... monza with GT cars, fps was below 30fps, same track with open wheel, same number of cars as GT, same graphics settings as GT, nearly double the fps in places..

Its an excellent game, the screenshots are not a million miles from what i've seen, it handles excellently well for open wheel and some of the road cars..

But as its alpha then Ive not got even bigger hopes this is finally the GT5 for PC..

Excited - oh yes..!!

Tells you the status of each car here
http://forum.wmdportal.com/showthread.php?2218-List-of-Vehicles-in-Project-CARS

It should not say physics finished and sound finished for any of them though.....
audio guy recently said they were going to redo all the sound samples from scratch before release and if you read the patch notes some of the cars someone decided to list as physics finished still get changes from time to time

Ooh some interesting cars mention in that list..

Seems they are going for worthwhile cars and not cars like GT5 had that you'd never actually willingly drive for too long..

Yep, i'm convinced, this is now looking like it could be a GT5 type game for PC...

wish I could buy a tool pack..

How do I get replays to switch between cams, seems to be stuck in in car view cam, i've noticed if you press X on my gamepad for a few seconds whilst playing it changes to all sorts of views, how do i change to these views whilst watching replays?

Trying stock cars now, that seems to be well optimised as well.. American nascar isn't the most exciting, but seems a better job thus far then what GT5 was...

Ughhhh went back on today. Loaded up a free run. Force Feedback goes crazy, car literally starts floating off of the track and the pedals do nothing in game (after mapping them in settings) with no control whatsoever over the car itself.

Five steps backwards then.

Right well I worked out the replay issue. Seems some tracks the replays work better then others...

but I have now worked out how to get those awesome screenshots everyone is posting. You can do all sorts of tricky to get DOF, blurring and awesome camera angles, the level of detail to the cars is simply amazing. the poly count must be through the roof.

Now that Steam do the early access for games, like Arma 3, reckon Slighty Mad might do the same and put it up on Steam early access? I'm so eager to get this game, I've been playing it every night, tinkering around, checking out the tracks, taking some screenshots..

I'm a total car junky, I've no idea why I've not got a wheel, if I had full access to this game i'd go any get a wheel for this tomorrow lol. Loving the M3 right now, was the lotus 78T, moved on to the M3, was stock cars last night..

tbh you should have a wheel.

playing on joypad kinda defeats a lot of the purpose what some talk about. also highlights the difference in steering issues. which cant be judged on a joypad.

glad you enjoying it hopefully you dont become the next pcars salesmen on here though as there are many already.

you dont seem very pro opinionated yet so ill say enjoy the game :p

Yeah game seems solid, the choice of cars at the moment is very limited, looking at the projected car list – seems to be quite interesting but DLC? Hmmm guess that was to be expected, base game comes with enough cars to get you going it would seem from the expected base game, but DLC for some interesting car models which I’m not keen to read about. DLC for extra tracks and cars AFTER the game has released to prolong is fine.. But before release?

The track selection is good, I don’t like the names given, is there some licensing issue so they can’t use Monza, Monaco, Spa etc..? I spent 5 mins trying to find Monza lol didn’t click at first the name was changed, weird..

Assen – Audi was another one..!!

The AI is woeful though, I’ve taken to just letting the entire field go past at the start, then spend 10 or so laps catching them all up, makes for an interesting chase style gameplay. AI needs a lot of work IMO.

Was very impressed with Classic Lotus races though, that is very close to a final game IMO.

Like I said, its got bags of potential, but it also needs a lot sorting and the devs will have to work hard to get the dream of the best looking and best handling racing game ever released by end of 2013.

All the DLC stuff is just planning so far I don't think any of them are going to come out until months after release but I cant be bothered to go searching for qoutes. theres still loads of the core cars that haven't been started yet that will be done before the dlc stuff.

It takes something like 3-5weeks for the modelling guys to get a car ready for export

the game is going to ship with the dedicated server exe anyway and I'm sure someone will figure out how to add cars quicker than they did with shift 2
