calling all LOTRO players

Hi, I played on Snowbourne for 3 weeks and got a captain to level 30 after that I gave up and my subscription is inactive. It was just ridiculously hard to get help to do fellowship quests let alone the instances / instance quests. I was spending most of my time mining whilst trying to get help but nada, I didn't feel like punishing myself any longer begging for help so I quit.

I can only assume you never joined a Kinship ? If you decide to play the game solo it becomes a chore and finding decent 'pugs' can be a laborious task. In a decent Kinship you can always find help and assistance in those difficult quests making a more pleasurable experience.

Agreed,

the only way to get the full fun experience out of this game is to get into a good friendly kinship, there r lots of kins out there so u should be able to find one to suit your needs.

is it just me or a couple of posts ago did eekfek admit to having a Hunter? shock horror! i hope you control ** agro mate ;)

jokes aside hunters really r fun to play even if they r the most over populated class. im glad mine is only an alt tho as i love my main char, only really wanted my hunter for playing in the ettens, which is actually what i spent most this weekend doing :)

well that and the rift which i seem to be a constant resident of at the moment, got downed by the everseer last night but with another raid planned for tuesday i think we're ready to down him and get on to the balrog himself!

damn you !!! rof i was waiting for a comment about that so i'll explain ... i recruited two new members both lvl 20's so i've been playing my 'parked' hunter (also lvl 20) to help and guide them

i still play my lvl 50 Guardian the most seeing as i have the full High-protector armour ../bling and find him the most fun, although my Loremaster lvl 50 has been in the rift mostly for CC , and that bloody everseer keeps spoiling the party for us also

the hunter is fun and yes extremely powerful but i'm lucky that the other two guys are walking Duracell batteries (loremasters) with lynx pets so its pretty handy

lmao, no need to explain to me mate, hunters are great fun and i think everyone should have one just for the fun value, i just think they should also have a useful character as well so that groups can be balanced.

we've done our part as we seem to cover the in demand classes between us :)

well we got into the everseer room last night and the second the tank engaged the seer our second minstrel lost connection, then as she re joined (on half health as u do as u log in) she gets hit with his high AOE and dies.

both me and the captains were battle rez-less so i had to try and heal the whole group, needless to say i couldnt keep it up indefinatly,we had him down to 30,000Hp so im quietly confident that with 2 minstrels we could have taken him, still it gives us something to aim for.

on a happy note i got my first piece of rift armour on friday so im now proudly wearing wandering bard boots :D

Finally installed it, just need to setup my account now. Could someone recommend a server for me to join? I'd quite like to join a kinship and quest with people :)

Thanks

I've palyed this on and off, for a couple of months and I don't know if it's just me being a bit spoilt by being part of a raiding guild in WoW, but the way instances etc are organised by various players in LOTRO seems pretty bad, is this just the lower level none guilded players with not much expirience?

How are the guilds organised for raiding, do you work from a points system or do people just roll for an item? Also are the fellowships large enough to run raids on their own or do you need more than one fellowhip to raid successfully

I'm sure this all differs fellowship to fellowship but playing to lvl 18 (I think) it just seems the players at that level are a little dis-organised.

*This isn't a rant, just a general observation. I am by no means calling you a bunch of n00btards or anything:p *

Well most people seem to be on Snowbourne so I'd recommend that, also I've been playing for about a week now and I've joined a more or less brand new Kinship and 95% of the people in there are new to the game so were all helping each other out etc etc, the leader is an experienced player and has been so helpful and will always answer questions and give guidance etc etc, you'll be more than welcome to join us.

My in game name is Silaas so just add me to your friends via your social panel and I'll get you invited in.

See you there.

Chris

I think it depends on the kinship, our kinship (United Kingdoms) does a DKP (dragon kill points) system, id never heard of it before but apparently is done more widely.

basically u earn a point for each boss that is taken down, when an epic item drops who ever has the most dkp gets first option on it, if more than one person has the same number of dkp they do a /roll for it.

i think low level fellows can be pretty poorly co-ordinated which is why i recommend getting into a kinship and working with regular players so u can all learn your class and what you should be doing.

you can get away with un balanced grouping early on but later in the game take the wrong mix of classes to a quest / instance and its game over

hope this helps

Yeah it does thanks :)

We use the same DKP system for our guild in WoW, good to know how things are organised in a decent fellowship.

When I was playing it did get a little frustrating when it seemed to be a race to the end of the instance/quest and everyone just pulling aggro not using a tank/offtank etc

DKP is something my Kin (Unseen Servants) has clearly set out to avoid. Having mostly mature members (35+) all with jobs and kids we have a very relaxed and casual setup. Things like legendary Quest items are clearly agreed on before hand for example, a simple request in 'chat' or a post on the forum for help obtaining say the 'Slime of Helchgam' is all thats necessary . This setup works best for us as not everyone can join endless raids or 2-3hr instances only to be out-rolled on an item. Heck we even form groups to obtain items for people who cant even make it, and it seems to have had a cracking effect on the kin as a whole with everyone willing to help each other out.

We formed a 3way alliance not so long ago, and the above principle is welcomed and still going strong within, in fact we have ran BG over 40+ times to obtain a teal unique Halberd for a members Captain!!! it just became a running joke amongst everyone with no shortage of volunteers. I admit this might not work for everyone, but we are not setup as a Raid kinship and seeing as we hit rank 9 beards ago with a healthy pool of players , members since beta we must be doing something right. Only thing i cant stress enough to new players is get a friends list going and join a Kinship asap otherwise your going to struggle .

We only use the DKP system for armour sets in the rift or helegrond where the sets / items are disired by everyone, we still just form groups to help people get class items (helcham / winged dominence etc)

i dont want to make the kin shound like an all out hardcore raiding kin, they are very relaxed about it and you only do what you want to do, its just i personally have been signing up to a lot of raids as its a part of the game i havent done much and am now interested in :)

started playing on snowbourn with 2 friends, guardian minstrel and champion.
i rolled elf champion because i liked the look but would it be better to be a dwarf ?
my two other friends rolled dwarf so i wanted our fellowship to look a bit different :p

i'm the same Loki, i wasn't interested in long instances and having to redo them over and over for certain items, but i've found that the people who you fellow up with make or break it in terms of fun and enjoyment. I'm just as guilty as any other player for aiming at the wrong mobs in carefully laid out plans , usually involving a complete wipe ,, heck i've fell off cliffs to my death running away in panic haha

Leo : each race has different class traits with dwarves getting a superb 75% buff to all block/evade/parry stats for 'x' amount of time, whereas the race of man say 'strength of morale' a 3000+ morale boost with a 1hr cool down etc etc ..

**is there a thread for player names and server btw ? it would be extremely handy for new players so they can add us all to their friends list**

To be honest I think the DKP system is a fair way of dishing out armour sets, weapons etc, as the person with the most has attended more raids and will probably be atetnding more in the future so the item in question will be put to better use by that person.

i'm no way stating it is a bad system, it depends on the Kinship and that person entirely. Our Kins ethos is to make sure no-one suffers due to real life commitments, members who work late nights or mums and dads having to go put kids to bed etc etc those are the type of people who can never attend the large instances so miss out on the all the 'shiny' goods. Its like crafting, those who can do it will gladly gather the materials and make the equipment for no fee's so the casual members don't feel left out.

Sounds like a good guild mate :)
