Itt: Smug mac fanboys and angry custom pc owners argue to the death.
They recycle all the aluminium they machine out of the block
. Also, you're wrong; the reason they can make the laptops thinner is because of this new process, and it does make them lighter (I think the Macbook Pro is 50% lighter than the old Macbook Pros in terms of major structural parts).

Never happen. Apple users are too smug and Custom PC owners are too busy trying to outdo each other in 3DMark.
That would be be, but the OP didn't listen.
Well I finally got my new macbook!
And it wasnt that I didnt listen - it was because I wanted it asap, and also, I went on finance with it , plus the convinience of if it ever does go wrong, I only have to pop into work to get it looked at and fixed or whatever.
Plus a lot of my uni friends have actually got macs and apparently the HE discount is for one mac / macbook per year, so I couldnt get it anyway.

Durrr... why get a Mac? Only losers buy Macs. Macs are overpriced, you dork. Macs are crap. Mac mice don't even have more than one button... how ghey!
Oh, hang on. Just realised I own a Mac too. And thinking about it my Mac Mini boots up from cold in 18 seconds and is then ready to run. My Windows and Linux PCs are more powerful yet take longer to boot and get something to run... especially the Windows box. Damn.
I went on finance with it
Please tell me you didn't go with some horrible PC World or similar 29.9% APR horrible finance.
Macs are nice but not so nice as to get locked in a horrible finance deal.
Still spectacuarly wastefull, it's quite a expensive/energy intesive process, to melt/refine aluminium.

Wait.. so you already have a mac / macbook?
lol, I sell the finance I took out everyday for customers.
Its the buy now pay 6 month later one I did, and your right - If I miss the 6 month deadline, I get locked into a 43 month contract with 29.9% APR!!
Going to pay it off after xmas anyway - so its not a biggie
You can pick up cheaper PCs but for the convenience and the support of a large company it makes sense for a lot of businesses to simply go with what they know. I've not bought a Dell and don't really intend to but many places where I've worked use them and they simply do their job, very few problems and if there are then the aftersales support seems to have been quite good in terms of replacing what is necessary.
Just as long as you aren't charged an admin fee upon payment like almost all interest free deals have...
I had a Dell Latitude D520. Retail cost: £600. Average laptop, average battery life. Always needed to be woke from hibernation when I wanted to use it. Turning hibernation off meant it was out of juice when I ever needed it. Festooned with ports all over the shop.
I have (as a secondary laptop) an Acer. Retail cost: £550. Crap laptop, abysmal battery life, even with hibernation on. The damn thing is always out of juice when I need it. It has Vista on it and although I can see some of the merits of Vista it gets in my way.
I have a MacBook. It cost me £649 of my hard earned cash (I didn't pay for the other two one was works laptop and the other a freebie from a business deal). The battery on the laptop lasts around 4 - 5 hours unless I hammer it with Aperture/Photoshop. Makes no noise unless it is hammered, no random fan spin ups like on the other two. It never hibernates and is always ready to go as soon as I open the lid.
What I am saying is the MacBook works with me rather than against me. It does what I need it to do when I need it to do it. The operating system helps me get done what I need to do. It looks good when out and about or around the house.
If these aren't the reasons why you would purchase a laptop then that's great but there is no need for the usual immature comments.
