Canadian Grand Prix 2011, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve - Race 7/19

So the implementation can be improved at this track? First time it has been used there so you'll afford the implementation some leeway this year?

Vettel kept Hamilton behind him in Spain despite DRS.

No becuase it is an unfair and pointless system. Some tracks it hasn't worked.

That's how it used to be done. The Tyrrell only had a V8 versus the Stewart's V10 engine too...

Yes and we could show film from the Turbo Era or ground effect cars as well which was even better, however, nowadays, with the current rules, no refueling (lighter cars) we have DRS instead.

You can't compare DRS to turbos or anything else ever implemented in F1

Yes, hilarious. The last time that happened, the marshall died when hit by a car. So did the driver of said car when the marshalls fire extinguisher hit him in the head and decapitated him.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one whose heart went mental seeing that. All I could think about was Tom Pryce in South Africa. Utter stupidity that they'd try to recover debris before the pack has passed the spot.

Which is understandable, considering it isn't an exact science and every track is different with its own implementation.

The fairness is debatable. Does DRS just negate dirty air? Does it give more of an advantage? Is it all about implementation? Hard to say, as you allude to, it has worked at some tracks.

I did think it was odd to have 2 zones though. Bit of testing I think there.

I think they need to download the Formula 1 app on their iPhones to see where they are on track!

(Mind you even that is unrealiable sometimes).

I can compare it for the improvment in entertainment it gives.

Fixed, it does nothing to help racing at all, in fact it is a massive down side to racing and detracts from the sport.
If you are looking for entertainment rather than racing then yes it's animorovment. But that's not what any sport should be about.

It does nothing to negate dirty air, it does nothing to keep the cars closer over the lap, all it does is give an unfair advantage to the car behind.
As I said two zones made next to no difference today. Almost all clean drove round the other in the first zone. About the only one was massa at the finish. Is that racing? Having an unfair speed advantage, no skill and no way to defend.

jenson was flattered by the wet setup mclarent admited to before the race and DRS pretty much more than made of for the penalty of a wetsetup the boy did good though you cant take that away from him

When I saw it, I thought the Renault looked to be going a lot faster than they are meant to be under safety car, seeing as he locked all his tyres when e saw the marshal.

Looking at that old Stewart/Tyrell video, look at how basic the wings are. The front wing is pretty much single piece plus two flaps, and the rear wing is single flat pieces. No stupid winglets and stuff.

Some tracks, maybe, unfair? Gonna have to disagree, every car has it, it improves racing, and is a far more fair system than used in touring cars where weight penalties are added for psotive results.

It reduces the penalty you get for following a car in front with aerodynamics which upset your car through every corner resulting in more exciting racing.

which is what they should have done in 2013, ground effect & banning of winglets.

Every car might use it, but they can't use it, thus it's unfair,
It does. Not improve racing, it improves entertainment. There is nothing good about the overtakes. This Isn't touring cars, this is the supposedly the pinnacle of racing. Although I would say the lemans today showed f1 how to do it.

My race thoughts

1) Excellent race for button and .
2) Glad to see vettel not winning. (not Vettel hate, but it was getting a little tiresome - "Tyre"some :p)
3) Shame Schumi couldn't hold on for the podium BUT he was in a much slower car - great to see he still has the pace.
4) DRS is not a good future for F1. I think the KERS, poor tyre compounds and newer diffusers do a good job at closing gaps.
5) Lewis was a little hot headed, but he's a racer and always great to watch. Seems to be a lot of steward intervention recently - I'm hoping this doesn't deter drivers from trying to pass each other.
6) Poor marshaling in the Heidfeld incident. Let the entire train pass before recovering debris. Could've been VERY nasty.
7) Perhaps the safety car was overused (especially at the start - understandable during the 15 or so lap mark when it was clearly unsafe) and I would've liked to see the session resumed a little earlier.
