Canadian Grand Prix 2011, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve - Race 7/19

Of course it was a deciding factor,in a lot of passes it was pretty much the only factor. You just need to watch the video of the closing speeds once the wing pops open. It's clear as day. Even the commentators were saying it and drivers.

If it was the ONLY factor, why couldn't the other driver re-overtake next lap?

Because surely EVERYTHING else must have been equal.

It wasn't the deciding factor in JB and SV that is for sure, and without seeing telemetry, we cannot say someone didn't late change a gear under pressure, use KERS late, all sorts. You can see DRS, all the other factors you can't, and that is where you see it as a simple push button overtake.

Anyway, enough discussion about this, you say it is unfair, I say the opposite, both are opinions and neither is right or wrong, and neither will agree with the other, the rules are what they are, time for you to man up and stop whining about them.

Pleased about the lack of penalties in those conditions, only one I thought might go against him was the alonso one.

Pretty much all of the others where non events.

JB had nowhere to go (apart from on the kerb / grass ) after Alonso seemingly gave him enough room and then took it away after the point of no return (whether that was on purpose or because of track conditions is another matter)

Alonso got what he deserved imo

____________

JB drove an amazing race, pushed like he did in Monaco (when he was able to) and fully deserved the win (and those thinking MS deserved the win are just laughable imo - the only thing that saved him being that high were the conditions, his car was dog slow and didnt deserve a podium let alone a win)

I feel for PDR in the force india , impossible conditions for a rookie and was looking like certain points before a minor mistake, but he looks like a real racer and deserves a 2nd seat in a better car (not that the force india is bad, there are far worse cars, but I like Paul as a driver)

At that point in the race I really dont think Lewis had enough alongside Jenson to complete the move (back tyre connecting to front) , he had to try but in those conditiions someone was always going to esit the race, it just wasnt on imo (no penalty was deserved had he continued either)

It would be interesting to find out what caused both McLarens to speed behind the first safety car - whether it was a software glitch or JB following LH to exactly and once the latter went too fast then JB did too, but considering the conditions etc I think thats a harsh penalty without gaining position (even temporarily)

2nd time JB has managed to pressurise Vettel into a major mistake (first lap of.......Turkey? in 2009 being the 1st one)

Great race today, even when button was at the back of the grid i looked at how many laps left, thought yeah, plenty of time, he can still win it, didnt think he would tho. Bit of a mystery as to why di resta got a drive through tho, i would have understood if he had of taken nick out, but no, didnt hurt his race at all. I think its a bit petty, all this drivers getting penalty's for stupid things, i just think let em race ffs.

damn glad the stewards saw, some, sense today, didnt fancy waking up tomorrow finding mr finger gifted victory, i'll sleep better tonight now :)

I don't get how people can say DRS is unfair, if Car A gets overtaken by Car B, then Car A if he is actually good enough and wasn't just in the way of a quicker car, can just overtake Car B in the DRS zone on teh next lap. We've not really seen too much flip flopping like that so the quickest car will always be in front. IMO all it does is lessen the skill needed to overtake, but then without it we get no overtaking at all more or less.

Jenson won me £75! £5 stake at 14/1. I was jumping up and down when Vettel went off!

Button/Hamilton, Button had no idea he was there and was taking the normal line for turn one. Racing incident.

Button/Alonso again racing incident. neither driver should be expected to yield when every point towards catching Vettel is important. Button was almost past but Alonso had to make the apex for the second part of the chicane. Again racing incident.

Button did set a PB while catching up with the pack under the safety car, so surprised he didn't get another penalty after the first one...but extremely glad he didn't :)

Absolutely devastated that MSC didn't get on podium. He raced well today.

was laughing so much when this happened.

I think it was one of the best F1 races i have seen. although i didnt start watching it until neary the end.

I think that JB deserved the win, because at the end he was 1.5s faster a lap at one point than vettel. and i think that scared him into making a mistake.

A LOT of people hated Schumacher when he was racing. Whats happened to that? He was always one of my favourite drivers.

Because everyone likes seeing the underdog do well. He drove fantastically well, proving that he still does have the speed, just that the merc is nowhere near quick enough in dry conditions.

It's become a common thing now hasn't it. Morning after the grand prix come on here and check to see if anyone got a penalty or to see if the results have changed in any way. Glad for once nothing seems to have happened!
JB drove a fantastic race, last to first is an epic achievement.
I wish I remembered all those who posted anti JB stuff a few years back saying he was simply a journey man as i'd take these results and make them eat it. These last 2 races he's shown he has as much fight in him as Hamilton does, I hope this win boosts his confidence in himself and the car and allows him to get that extra 5% that he usually seems to be missing.

Good to see Jenson kept his place after the race. A well deserved win and a brilliant drive. Shows how much race pace the McLaren has in the dry now.

If that move on Alonso had been Hamilton then I am sure it all would have ended very differently.
