Canadian Grand Prix 2011, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve - Race 7/19

Just watched the second half of the race.

Wow Button! That was an incredible come back.

Judging by those last few laps, it should have been a McLaren 1-2 but for yet another overly reckless move from Hamilton. He clearly had the drop on Button, but he should have realised he wouldn't have space and either dropped back or gone on the other side. I was interested by the Massa-Kobayashi battles, seemed a spit of Lewis-Mark but they managed not to hit each other.

Button defends Hamilton...can't see that happening if it was the other way round somehow

I disagree, Hamilton is hot heated but he's not unfair or unreasonable. When he's been involved in incidents while he might say something rash straight afterwards, he's usually apologised or moderated his comments once he's had a chance to calm down and look at things.

masa didn't make the 1st corner, if it was a race lap he would have had to give it back.

True but you could say that shows good thinking on the part of the driver, lines up the move for the last corner and cane it down the straight, knows he doesn't need to worry about staying on line for anything after that.

Why am I not surprised Surnama knocking the win, totally predictable

At least SV and Webber had more grace on the podium, JB is still one of the few people to actually make SV crack (and he's managed it twice) - rather than RB underperform on the day. Admittedly SV should have pushed harder when he wasnt under pressure (or maybe he was and couldnt do more without risking something) but that could be his slight immaturity /inexperience as a team leader / winner

Lewis' future at McLaren hinges on Webbers future at Red Bull. If Webber stays on for 2012 Lewis will be driving for Red Bull in 2013. If Webber leaved, Red Bull will employ someone else as McLaren will not let him go early.

However, I would be a bit weary of moving to a new team for 2013 based on previous years form. 2013 could be a massive milestone for regulation changes. The reason RBR are now a front running team is because they got the 2009 rules bang on. Theres always the potential for someone else to get the 2013 rules bang on and Lewis moves to a team that ends up doing worse than McLaren.

However, if Lewis picks up a few wins in the second half of this season and ends on a charge... everything could change.

I totally agree with where you are coming from but there is something else to consider also imo

RB can now attract the best engineers etc etc because of their recent success , where in 2007 /2008 apart from Newey it was more "promise and a little less talent" rather than anything else

Massive reg changes are always a bit of a lottery (which is how Brawn succeeded) but its unlikely RB will be down for long, if at all with Newey in the team.......unless aeo importance is cut by a drastic amount, and in these financial concious times is that likely by the time regs are finalised?

Exactly..this was post race BEFORE Button went to see the stewards, not after realising he'd overstepped the mark like Hamilton did@ Monaco

I don't think that would have been the case, Hamilton and Button in normal circumstances wouldn't have putted that early for slicks. JB did because it was a gamble because his race was screwed.

Then the safety car came out.

He had the benefit of heat in the tyres so was so much faster. In normal circumstances Vettel would have had this covered and hamilton would have been in a similar situation to vettel, on slicks but nowhere near warm enough.

It was just another gamble that paid off, Hamilton and Button wouldn't have taken that gamble unless they had nothing to lose. Normally they would wait for some other insignificant runner and watch their lap times when they pitted for slicks and everyone reacts.

This time that person was Button and my god did it pay off. :)

Except Webber had slicks on before button but wasn't as fast and after the last SC heat in the tyres wouldn't be an issue, they'd all be evens at the restart.

LOLRobbie G. There literally is no end to your special talent.

You mention the other poster having an opinion which was correct. That then becomes fact, which contradicts your statement. It's for that reason alone I and many others tend to ignore your useless pov. You might have found it funny, others, including myself, didn't. You have to recognise this, but you don't, which is what makes you, an idiot. It's that simple.

Regarding affinity. A little closer than that i'm afraid, it involves my dad, school, and good friends, but I don't need to provide more information about that to someone with a low common social grounding such as yourself, and nor would I expect you to understand.

For that reason alone, I'm oot! ;)

You're oot alright, oot of all reality. 'Don't need to provide' simply translates as absolutely no relevant connection whatsoever. In fact this smacks of someone that considers themselves more closely connected to this person than they do to him. Keep dreaming lucero, keep dreaming :D.

Hamilton is just frustrated about having to drive the balls of the McLaren and still being 1 second slower than the Red Bulls.
Unfortunately I dont believe that for a minute that his frustration is mainly derived from his car not being the best - rarely has that happened in his F1 career, so I would hope he would have learnt to deal with that by now...

ps3ud0

His rivals are in a great position now, though.

They know that all they have to do is push him wide, close the door on him, maybe even bait him in to a smash and his head will go. Such is his mindset at the moment.

I can see his season unravelling if he doesn't learn to keep a calm head. I'm not talking about ignoring overtaking opportunities, but the fact he's letting the stewards get the better of him and believing his own media hype and persecution.

just popping in to say what a race! me and the gf loved it, although i did mock her when she said JB should just retire [she supports mclaren], so i put a small wager on for him to win, well well

as a Renault supporter i was disappointed with that crash, and even though i do not like JB that much, he broke vettel, how many others would have given up?

This is my favourite season since renaults 2x championships

Personally think you are doing JB a little bit of a dis-service saying it was a gamble - we had already had a few delayed radio messages (various teams) discussing going to slicks .....in a few laps time - JB has proven before he can actually get the job done in trickier circumstances on the "wrong" type of tyre for those few laps before majority of others

Maybe the first time he tried it years ago it might have been a risk - but I think its much less so now, even with different manufacturer of tyres in a different teams car

It's easy to be gracious when you're on the top step.

On the other hand, in the middle of the season it doesnt make sense to annoy your team or your "partner" un-necessarily, when you could require his help later on in one way or another (in a race)

as a Renault supporter i was disappointed with that crash,

If you mean the one in Singapore - thats a huge understatement. Any (or Every) racing fan should be completely appalled by what Renault did that day (or Flavio etc etc)

sorry - back on topic (:

I think it was a fantastic drive from Button. Sure things like tire heat contributed to his speed, but you don't get to be over a second faster than everyone else without balls and talent. Jenson had both in spades yesterday.

It was nice to see Vettel losing it, but in fairness to him I think there were some mitigating circumstances. Because he'd been at the front the whole time while others had been overtaking and pushing harder I suspect he had a lot less awareness of the track conditions, particularly off-line, than the others. I think that this combined with cooler tires made his mistake more likely. His key mistake was not pushing harder after the safety car, as he admits, since this would have fixed a lot of the problems.
