Canadian Grand Prix 2011, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve - Race 7/19

If we're interested in their relative wet/dry performance the sample is the races they've won, not the total races!

So are you suggesting that we wait until the pair of them have won about 25 races between them? If we do this, we may never be able to use statistics to compare 2 drivers. We need to use whatever data we have at present and not wait for drivers to retire...by that point, it'll be too late and we won't even be talking about Button or Hamilton.

The facts are as follows:

100% of Button's wins for McLaren have been in the wet.
100% of Hamilton's wins for McLaren (since Button joined), have been in the dry.

Make what you will of that.

No, what I'm saying, as I said above is "It's too small a sample size to say anything meaningful."

Hang on. Are you telling me that before they signed their deal with Williams, they have been developing their car without any wind tunnel?

maybe they were using a not so good one , they are only using the williams wind tunnel until they finish building one themselfs anyway

being lightning fast over a couple of laps doesn't make you a great driver, winning every race doesn't either.

Button was looking feisty in Monaco and then won in Canada despite a puncture and a drive through.

My view is that the McLaren is the fastest car in race trim, followed by the Fezza and then the RBR.

We have an intriguing second half of the season ahead of us, Hammi and Fred have to become more consistent. Button needs to drive about half as well as he did in Canada.

Hamilton needs a reality check. He should concentrate on his racing, get his dad back as manager and sort his head out.

All this bling / celeb friend status nonsense is not doing him any good. Who were those mates of his in the garage at the weekend? They didn't even look like that wanted to be there.

Personally can't see how Alonso could have won either Monaco or Canada

1) He only got 2nd because he had a free trye stop during the red flag, without that both his and Vettels would have been completely shot about 10 laps before the end, and even before he caught Vettel JB was beating them both for pace hand over fist and was easily within a pitstop's worth of time on the track without needing a stop himself

If he hadn't stopped he would have been sliding all over the shop well before the end meaning getting past wouldn't have been an issue (haven't botth RB and Ferrari botth said they were lucky with this - could have sworn I read this somewhere)

2) In Canada (where Massa and Alonso had similar pace) Button not only cauight Alonso very easily but would have passed him without issue if (said diplomatically) the Ferrari hadn't slipped and clipped the McLaren after seemingly giving him enough space to pass - and no complaintt from Ferrari against the race winner as far as I've heard yet suggests its at best 50/50 and probably more likely a Ferrari mistake otherwise we would be hearing whinging in the press by now.. Not to mention that at some points JB was nearly 2s a lap faster than the next fastest man (which can't be disputed), even in those conditions no one can say for definate (especially being so far back at the time of wiping himself out) he could have made that kind of time up per lap let alone even more time.

Just my opinion mind, but JB's timing is based on a number of laps actually done, anything Alonso might have been capable of is pure hypothesis and nothing more

They'd been on air for 5 1/2 hours by the time the GP coverage finished and think they had flights home to catch!

Was a real shame cos if ever there was a race which needed the F1 Forum this was it!!

They were using one in Switzerland AFAIK - with the obvious logistical problems. I think the deal to use the one at Williams will reap dividends for Lotus - it'd be great to see them moving into the midfield :)

is williams fullsize? also does anyone know wether the lotus one will be half size , full size or what?

i think your alowed more hours at half size compared to a fullscale wind tunnel?

does anyone know if hamilton also had all these 'gangsta' type people in his garage at monaco?

when did they all start turning up?

They have been around since day 1. He quite often has some black music artists around him as guests. Most people bring guests to F1, its just Hamiltons tend to 'stand out wit der bling and stance, innit, yo!"
