JB lost most of P1 due to an oil leak that got fluid on the clutch. Then during the break between P1 and P2 they discovered a problem with the gearbox itself and so had to change it, meaning he lost most of P2 as well.

And Vettel tagged Senna I think. Got a slapped wrist.

No as it's a practice gearbox or something like that.

They do seem to be looking stronger. Tbh I don't mind who wins the race or championship...as long as it isn't Vettel.

What is the weather outlook for quali and the race?

Caught a glimpse of them doing practice pit stops at the end of p2 for I think both lewis and jenson, so I assume that was testing the new equipment.

Sounds promising. Ferrari were supposed to have poor traction and a real lack of top speed at the start of the season if I remember correctly? If they're strong here then it would indicate they have really got on top of the car.

In monaco they showed amazing mechanical grip. It's something that was talked about in FP at that event and in FP1&2 in Canada.

That does seem to be the case... Guess that's the apparent trade off less risk but worse when something does go wrong.

They'd have to change all 4 wheels again as you can't change just one.

Oh, and Jenson had his gearbox changed twice!

They are using the internally mounted wheel nuts on all wheels this weekend... Apparently they ran them on just the back wheels in Monaco.

The best QC in the world can't pick up every single fault.

Is an undetectable defect bad QC or bad materials? Answer: Neither.

Probability states things WILL fail.

Lady luck comes into it because who knows where the fault is?

Given Mercs engine reliability, I'm guessing it really comes down to poor design as QC and materials will be top notch in their gearboxes, as per their engines.
