Canadian Grand Prix 2014, Montréal - Race 7/19

I guess it's one that will have people arguing until it's forgotten about.
I'm gutted for the both of them though. Had been screaming at Massa to go all out, win or nothing! He did what I asked... :D
It's good to see drivers going for it, this time it didn't work out. I don't think a penalty was deserved for either driver.

I'll agree with that, apart from the last sentence.

It was a late change of direction from Perez. Massa was alongside and had an overlap hence the accident. Perez took a silly risk, he should have covered earlier or stuck to the right side.

Perez was repeatedly called on being over aggressive last year, Monaco and Japan last year jump out at me. The only reason he's not getting castigated on it is that fact that Maldonardo is a Grade A unhinged nutter.

Did Rosberg start crying during the podium talk? lol... Pausing and rewinding and i am pretty sure he is abouts to blurt out crying.

Great fans at the Canadian GP, just a great place to host F1 in general, up there with Silverstone, Spa, and Suzuka.

Fully agree, so many entertaining races from this track.
Just got the highlights on from this race just now, the onboard from Perez really doesn't show much in the way of steering movement, it's surprising when you compare it to the heli footage in the earlier posts.

Ignoring this incident though... Such a good race to watch. On at a good time for the non-F1 folks too, it's done a good job at promoting the sport. :)

Edit: The Rosberg footage at turn (4?)... So so lucky! He really does have a lot to smile about after this one.

As above

Lewis Hamilton: "The circuit here seems to suit my style. I just seem to gel with the track. There's a lot of heavy braking, which has generally been a real strength of mine, and I hope I can have another good weekend this year. "

Think he's answered that one for you ;)

Heavy braking zones are his strength, that doesn't say he brakes heavily everywhere. Seriously, fuel conservation is lifting and coasting in to corners. Outside of the Williams, Hamilton has the best fuel conservation on the grid. Where else do you think he's making up the fuel usage, magic land? Accelerate longer, brake more heavily and later = a bit faster but heavier on fuel, coast earlier, brake less, save fuel. What Hamilton is doing is clear and who was locking up all over the place was obvious too.

You think Hamilton brakes heavily in a 330kph straight to a 60kph corner, but no one else brakes heavily? He likes fast tracks with these types of corners, it in no way AT ALL implies he brakes heavily everywhere.

BBC commentary hasn't improved much, has it? Watching the race on IPlayer, opening lap you've got one Marussia in bits and another parked up with fairly significant damage also. The Beeb commentators?

DC: Did he touch with his team mate?

Well, what the **** do you honestly think happened, David? A few minutes later, and with a super-slo-mo replay from more than one angle, it's finally got through to our esteemed BBC commentators that Bianchi and Chilton had in fact hit each other.

Bring Back Murray™.

***edit***

Sod this, BBC commentary making my teeth itch. Will just have to resort to mahoosively illegal means of getting a video of the race that doesn't have these prats talking over it.

The radio 5 live commentary from james allen and alan mcnish is loads better. Not sure if they still do it now, but you used to be able to listen to the radio commentary over the video on the red button.

.

Was looking at a bit of video on bbc website and you had the commentators, with the Rosberg corner cut, going "Hamilton takes the lead, wait, no, hamilton had to back off, wait, no, Rosberg is ahead, he'll have to give that back surely". So, 1 out of 3 :p they are rubbish.

For frank, who didn't seem to get it, Rosberg got a warning, and if he did the SAME thing again he would have gotten a penalty, thus, he did do something wrong and everyone knows it. In this case it's like a yellow card for a warning and red card for a penalty. Just because it wasn't a red doesn't mean they didn't determine he wasn't in the wrong, they absolutely DID decide he did something wrong. Stupid rule, they really need to get the kind of bumps in there you have to weave around so bailing out on the corner means either slowing down or going for a short flight. Personally I think they got the decision wrong in not punishing him for the corner miss, it's not like he gained a tenth or two, he gained 7-8 tenths.

He made the mistake, he cut the corner, and he got extended his gap by going fast across the chicane rather than going exceptionally slowly through the chicane.

2 DNFs and Hamilton is only 22 points behind. Hopefully Rosberg has a DNF soon to even things out again - it would be a shame if a DNF decided the championship. I want to see it won on the track tbh.

Canada certainly delivers.

They said on commentary he passed Hulkenberg and another the last lap. My guess they backed right off at the crash and Button caught them napping.
No, Button passed them on the lap before the accident (Alonso and Hulkenberg). If you look closely on the Massa replay you can see Button on the main straight ahead of the two of them.
Remember he was closing on Alonso at over a second a lap for around 10 laps prior to the Massa accident.

With the 'norm' for Mercedes being a 1-2 finish, 2 DNFs requires 8 wins to make back. It could take another 4 race win streak before Lewis heads the championship again.

I think the fact that he's had two DNFs and is less than a race win away in terms of points is positive. There's still a long way to go and as he said yesterday, he's caught up once and he can do it again.

I just hope he doesn't suffer any more bad luck.

Quite a surprise. From the onboard footage Perez looks to have the wheel firmly straight and is in no way crowding Massa to the circuit edge. Just a pity the onboard Massa footage skips a frame at the crucial moment.

Glad both are ok but can never be certain of the effect on the drivers' bodies in the long-term.
Im pretty sure the FIA would have looked at the telemetry to come to that decision.
