Canadian Grand Prix 2014, Montréal - Race 7/19

Bad form even with a winky doodah. I wouldn't call multiple fractures, crushed lower legs and a shattered vertebrae leading to a 18 month recovery a joking matter.

Get over yourself. I was saying Kubicas accident in comparison was kids stuff. He suffered nothing but concussion. Where did I joke about Bracks crash. That's right no where.

" The circuit here seems to suit my style. I just seem to gel with the track. There's a lot of heavy braking, which has generally been a real strength of mine, and I hope I can have another good weekend this year. "

Although to be fair it sounds like it was a failure caused in his last pit stop... but then Paddy Lowe said the MGU-K failure resulted in stressed load on the rear brakes and that Rosberg drove amazingly well to nurse the car at speed so make of it what you will.

Wow, what a race.

Great to see Ricciardo win, deserves something going his way. Top bloke as well, really hope he can win a few more races this year.

Loved seeing Hard Luck Hamilton retire, nice advantage for Rosberg but I doubt it'll last.

Glad Massa and Perez are ok, that was one hell of an impact.

Canada never fails to disappoint, roll on 10 more years of racing like that :)

Very disappointed by that penalty for Perez. Massa had more than enough room? Perez didn't make a crazy lunge right to left? I was sure it'd be racing incident and left at that!

Guess they have access to all the data and whatnot, but from the TV footage, it just didn't look like he should be blamed for it.

It's complete luck, stop trolling. Hamilton had significantly better fuel usage over Rosberg, you think that comes from heavy braking, not a chance.

As above

Lewis Hamilton: "The circuit here seems to suit my style. I just seem to gel with the track. There's a lot of heavy braking, which has generally been a real strength of mine, and I hope I can have another good weekend this year. "

Think he's answered that one for you ;)

Hmm...

I just watched hte lock up again on SSN... Rosbergs front/s were locked well after turn in point - to say he did anything deliberate *cough* drunkenmaster *cough* is ABSURD haha!

That is pretty good footage actually! I'm really not sure what to make of it.
Why did Massa continue to turn right, when he knew the driver in front would have to turn left into the corner?

Perez definitely did move a bit left, but is that not his right given that he is infront? It wasn't multiple moves. He just turned a little...
Really not sure what to make of it, but there was a load of room left on the track. Racing incident and I fail to see how it deserves a 5 place grid penalty.
This is very different to Max Chilton diffing it into the side of his team mate.

It really looks like Massa turns more to the right than would be expected though, he was ultra aggressive and trying to force Perez off the track maybe?
Didn't work out...

I'm annoyed that the judges have given any penalty on this.

I like both drivers so from an unbiased pov I'd have to say Perez turned left which looked too early for the apex, as if he was avoiding going into the back of Vettel...

I think the stewards made the right call there and Massa, despite prior protestations in this thread, wasn't at fault at all.

I guess it's one that will have people arguing until it's forgotten about.
I'm gutted for the both of them though. Had been screaming at Massa to go all out, win or nothing! He did what I asked... :D
It's good to see drivers going for it, this time it didn't work out. I don't think a penalty was deserved for either driver.

FIA Sporting Regulations said:
20.4 Any driver defending his position on a straight, and before any braking area, may use the full width of the track during his first move, provided no significant portion of the car attempting to pass is alongside his. Whilst defending in this way the driver may not leave the track without justifiable reason.
For the avoidance of doubt, if any part of the front wing of the car attempting to pass is alongside the rear wheel of the car in front this will be deemed to be a 'significant portion'.

20.5 Manoeuvres liable to hinder other drivers, such as deliberate crowding of a car beyond the edge of the track or any other abnormal change of direction, are not permitted.

20.5 relies on the stewards\race director making a judgement call, I would guess that Perez's move was considered an abnormal change of direction.
