Canadian Grand Prix 2014, Montréal - Race 7/19

Quite a surprise. From the onboard footage Perez looks to have the wheel firmly straight and is in no way crowding Massa to the circuit edge.

That's the problem. Theres a little right hand kink before the left turn. Him going straight moved his car to the left of the track and into Massa.

Originally I thought Massa was at fault but evidently not.

The thing is as the season goes on the cars are only going to get more reliable, and the only person likley to be close enough to him to take him out through contact is Lewis.

Lewis is going to have to do it the hard way.

Someone suggested on a another forum (though I think it comes from Perdro Dela Rose originally) that Hamilton's break failure could have been caused by him pushing so hard on his in lap before going into to pits. As the Montreal pit entry is at the end of a straight if you gun it and then brake hard before hitting the pits your brakes will get massively heated and then sit for 15-20 seconds before the cars gets up to full speed to start cooling them again, potentially causing a catastrophic weakness.

I aslos wonder if the energy recovery ssystem failing could put more load on the brakes too since normally it would be bleeding some of the energy off? Depends exactly what the failure was though.

Great race though. A bit disappointing to seen Hamilton drop so far back again, especially since Rosberg was lucky to finish 2nd. However, he did well to drive so well with both power and brakes issues.

Sod this, BBC commentary making my teeth itch. Will just have to resort to mahoosively illegal means of getting a video of the race that doesn't have these prats talking over it.

Dare I say it but listening to James Allen during the FP sessions I thought it would be better to have him than Edwards.

Brundle/Croft make mistakes also.

.

Why would it get more reliable, if anything as this season get's on and the parts take a battering from having to last so many races they could have more issues. People are acting like Rosberg is going to finish 2nd at least in every race. He won't. He will have DNF's and if they get anything like close to equalling Hamiltons then he's in trouble as Lewis has the beating of him.

As someone who has alwasy hated the current points system and everyone since the end of 10-6-4 I will find it hilarious if Rosberg win 1/4 of the races and takes the title. Even another DNF in the next race for hamilton to watch how he reacts mentally. At the start of the season I would have been happy for either of them to win the title, now I'd prefer the girly fighting to cause another title where someone else snuck in.

Such a long way to go, no way do I think the Merc will get more reliable through the season. We are one race past 1/3rd distance and Hamilton is a race win behind yet people seem to want to convince themselves that it's rosbergs to lose and Hamilton is going to have to win every race for the next 8. That scenario, we all know won't need to happen.

BBC commentary hasn't improved much, has it? Watching the race on IPlayer, opening lap you've got one Marussia in bits and another parked up with fairly significant damage also. The Beeb commentators?

DC: Did he touch with his team mate?

Well, what the **** do you honestly think happened, David? A few minutes later, and with a super-slo-mo replay from more than one angle, it's finally got through to our esteemed BBC commentators that Bianchi and Chilton had in fact hit each other.

Bring Back Murray™.

I got so fed up of DC, he's such a drip. Mind you, Brundle is grating on me too. Crofty is alright and Ted is of course good.

Crofty is a bit too dumbed-down for me. Mind you, he does it better than when Allen tried that with ITV. He came across better on 5 Live and doing the free practice sessions on the BBC. He's an easy listen though I suppose.

Brundle I feel is starting to get left behind by the technology and systems employed. I noticed it when he and DC were partnered for the year that Brundle seemed to be taken aback on a few occassions. He's still good of course, but not as good as he was in the ITV years (he and Kravitz were the only highlights after Murray left). Previously I'd have been distraught had I not been able to listen to Martin, but for some reason now I'd be nonplussed.

Allen has been brilliant since he started working for the BBC. He's a technical man, and now he's not got ITV screaming at him to pretend to be an idiot, and he doesn't have to **** off Hamilton and Button, he's become a much more balanced, natural commentator. He's still a tit for calling his son Enzo mind - that kid is going to get bullied!

Edwards I don't mind. He's an ex-racer himself, but he's done plenty of commentary over the years too, so it's a nice balance. I know plenty don't like his over-enthusiastic nature, but so long as it's genuine, I'm fine with it. I don't mind DC - he's no Brundle, but he's OK.

To be honest, I think on the TV side, the only grade A guy is Kravitz now. So easy with the camera and has a great knack of making technical stuff sound so untechnical. I'd love to sit down and have a pint with him.

The BBC almost seem to have given up. There's nothing on the technical side at all, and no real direction they're trying to go in. Suzi Perry should never, ever have got the job and she somehow manages to look so out of place still - as nervous as the first day. She wasn't this bad doing the bikes...

Yeah, I get that he is a little too dumbed down for some, but I don't mind that mostly. Brundle I think just rattlles on too much, I found myself shouting to the TV yesterday "oh just be quiet for a few mins man!". Who would have thought it, a commentator that commentates eh? :p Agreed on Allen, I might change to radio commentary during the show!

I wonder how everyone's opinions will be about the double points if it meant it was Rosberg's only DNF of the season and Hamilton finishes first?
Double points loss would be as good as two DNF's in that case, which would currently put him on an equal standing with Hamiltons DNF's.

And oh what a race, fantastic! First time I'm ever pleased to see a RBR victory. Vimto actually seemed really pleased for Ric, perhaps he's starting to appreciate how hard it is in a car that isn't the best.

Whoosh.

I was gauging who on these forums would backtrack on their comments about the double points system if it meant the difference between Hamilton having 1 or 2 WDCs to his name after this season.
