Yay the FIA have introduced a limit to porpoising I don't think it's on purpose
Seen as Horner was so unnecessarily blunt about these issues (hey Christian, not every plays the 'game' as much as RB obviously do) I'd love it if they were found to be doing something they shouldn't be to limit their own porpoising.A statement from the FIA read: “A Technical Directive has been issued to give guidance to the teams about the measures the FIA intends to take to tackle the problem. These include:
“1. Closer scrutiny of the planks and skids, both in terms of their design and the observed wear
“2. The definition of a metric, based on the car’s vertical acceleration, that will give a quantitative limit for acceptable level of vertical oscillations. The exact mathematical formula for this metric is still being analysed by the FIA, and the Formula 1 teams have been invited to contribute to this process.
“In addition to these short-term measures, the FIA will convene a technical meeting with the Teams in order to define measures that will reduce the propensity of cars to exhibit such phenomena in the medium term.”
I think it's fair enough, I wonder what the penalty might be, stop and go, black flag.
On the other hand, if the RBR car is legit and all the other teams have to increase their ride height to adhere to this new metric, RBR are going to run away with it.The FIA announces technical directive to reduce porpoising

Does the RB actually have a higher ride height though ? Honestly it’s such a complex argument I don’t know.On the other hand, if the RBR car is legit and all the other teams have to increase their ride height to adhere to this new metric, RBR are going to run away with it.

I think it's pretty harsh to be punishing all teams for this. Mercedes are suffering worse, and definitely are "playing the game".
Hope we don't see any specific team run away with it now.
Edit: Would a higher ride height have any effect on how close the cars could run to each other?
I don’t think we should see it as “punishing” anyone. 99% of the drivers have basically said it’s unacceptable as it is. If they’ve not it’s because they’re winning e.g. Ferrari and RB. Go look at the Leclerc helmet cam from Baku. It’s insane.think it's pretty harsh to be punishing all teams for this. Mercedes are suffering worse, and definitely are "playing the game".
This, RB will benefit, Mercedes attempts to pressure the FIA into making changes will backfire on them...The teams that are not suffering will not be affected by the rule change.
Merc etc may well suffer more as their performance will drop.
Its up to them to sort out the issue as higher ride height will bring lower performance issues.
They had the advantage of having someone from the last era (with practical experience) of ground effects to design the car.The FIA announces technical directive to reduce porpoising

Well, it'll reduce the efficiency of the ground effect design and mean that the bodywork and wings are back to providing most of the downforce so I'd say yes.
