Canon 7D, 18-85 f3.5-5.6 IS USM, 18-135 f3.5-5.6 IS USM infos

This will come down to £1,500 by Christmas, no doubt about it. The 5Dii was £2300 rrp it think and it went to as low as £1,600 at one point where it has now settled at around £1,900/£2,000.

Hopefully the 5D MKII will come down in price a bit now, still considering getting one of those rather than the 7D as I mainly shoot macro, landscapes and architecture.

Narh....technically in Canon's ranking system the 5D is rank higher than the 7D, it'll never be sold cheaper than the 7D, at least from the RRP stand point.

The noise performance doesn't seem *that* different tbh. There's a few more white speckles on the 7D, but I was expecting better performance from the 5D.

I was comparing, thinking "Yeah, that is slightly worse." Then I realized it was the 5D I was thinking was worse than the 7D! To be honest, though, there really isn't much to choose between them, as far as I can see.

Actually u know what, now iv looked at it properly from the above examples, the 5d is better at 3200, but the 7d is hardly bad at all, i mean for a picture that you would print, its more than useable, very infact.

Now at ISO 6400 and above I have to say there is no more or less noise from either camera, just different, advantage 5d lost there, ( i have to say I prefer the 7d 6400, its less harsh)

Im thinking ill now have to tuck into my fav hat, not a bad showing at all, I have to say it knocks socks off my 40D in terms of high ISO performance....in that ISO 6400 doubles your shutter speed yet remains not bad at all to use.

I don't know how much it was before, but the 5D Mk II is now £1899 at a well-known photographic retailer. I guess I'd have a hard job justifying the (current) price of the 7D, despite the fact I'd need to replace a few of my lenses if I went for the 5D.

I guess I'll be sticking with the 50D for a while yet. ;)

I am not calling you out or nothing just following on.. I have to say I have no idea how you have come to that conclusion?
The 5D is a pure out winner in each battle by enough.
The 5D has the clarity and finer grain over the 7D

For one you can't even make out details under the girls eye in the 7D but you can with the 5D. Also the microphone.
I would favor the 5.

I wouldn't use either at 6400. They both look a mess :p

Currently I can't use much above ISO400 on my 10D so even being able to shoot 1600 or 2000 clean would be massive for me.

Perhaps you're right that there's more detail in the shots from the 5D. I still don't see much difference in the noise levels (although I agree with olv: they're both too noisy for my liking!); perhaps the 7D uses more noise reduction in order to achieve its results.

Yeah, ordered a body only one after lunch today. £1699 with a free 8GB Extreme III card and two £50 vouchers.

It's £200 overpriced in my opinion and I expect it to fall in price by that much or the 'free' items with it to improve in the run up to xmas but I've always said my ideal camera is a 1.6x crop with a 1D AF system. This pretty much is the 7D.

Gord,,,,,,,, they can be had for 1399 mate, don't wast money!!!!!!!!!

I wish I knew where you guys were talking about... Surely this place can't be considered a competitor to OcUK, considering OcUK's camera department is currently non-existent.

(Whilst I respect the rules of the forums, I'm a proponent of openness. If you're the best, let people talk about the competition, and have confidence that they'll return to you with their business once they're done. ;))

£1399 is UK stock, it's an offer to members of another well known uk based photography forum by one of their approved advertisers.

Not going to risk naming them as I never did work out who ocuk classes as competitors and who isn't.

I've just put my name down, going to cancel my pre-order.
