Can't decide: 55" - B7 OLED or Sony X905

Curve ball. Wandered into Richer sounds today to see a B7 sitting next to a Panasonic TX55. Think I preferred the Panasonic.

That would be the OLED Panasonic 55ez952b has dropped in price today by £500 to sub £2k at Currys - all over hotuk this morning.

If you look at Vincents (hdtvtest) youtube review of this versus the B7, he explains compellingly why he thinks its tone mapping of HDR material is superior,
personally have always had good experience with panasonic reliability and image quality, and, although it is the LG oled panel Panasonic, and others(sony) are buying in,
Panasonic electronics with an LG panel is where I would spend 2K now.

It would be interesting to know why they have made the price drop, I thought they could happily command the premium they had been asking.

Can't be too many months before the 2018 range of TVs get announced and you can get the LG for £300 less after they've discounted the Panasonic so I'd assume it's just the inevitable price drops kicking in.

wrong.

new tv's get announced around march. they usually launch around april/may.

biggest price drops happen around end of jan to march.

l had a good close look at the OLEDs the other day and the best one to me was the Sony.......but it's more expensive than the LG.
even so i'd still go for the Sony, but its screen is angled backwards on its stand, but my Panny plasma is lower than me so that's ok

i can't remember the exact years but their tellies only got good again about 3-4 years ago. so would have been 1998 to 2013 roughly or 1997 to 2012. they had the odd good tv but most of them were crap compared to first of all pioneer, then panasonic then samsung. then they had 1-2 good years when they made the best tv's around 2013-2014 but now are good but not the best.
sony's worst tv was mine !!!! that was about 2006, the kds55a2000 RPTV, it had the dreaded green blob issue ! it had a great PQ when it worked, but nowhere near as good as the Panny plasma...........the plasma has never broken down.

I cannot see a specific explanation for Panasonic price drop, but did see an article

Samsung reportedly struggling to increase the sales of Quantum Dot TVs
they have now been publicly exposed (we had already discussed limitations in earlier threads here)
so expect Quantomdots back in the sub 1K segment soon, like the ks7000 was priced.

edit

did you see the Panasonic too ?
yea, the sony looked the best but not that much better than the Panny, they had the 55'' and 65'' versions.............the Sony also looks brilliant as a design, it looks very sexy........................but if you're after quality and reliability my guess is the Panny is the best, judging from my great tv, but it's hard to tell.

but it's 4.5k !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW that's scary

I was going to do a post myself for this screen but I'm thinking of the C7 version 65" as it's dropped by £200 in Currys.
Any other TV's I should be considering for films and gaming other than this as I've had my heart set on this one for a while and not really looked at others.

I've just replaced a 55XD9305 with a LG C7 Oled - night and day, the OLED is sooo much better.

Don't forget your curry codes for £100 off TV's below £2k and £200 of TV's above 2K!

I did mate. It turns out that it only works for delivery items and the TV I want you have to reserve and collect and you can't use the coupons.

the Panasonic OLED is a crazy price right now, it's easily 2k too much..........the Sony looks a stupid purchase too, of course, all of this makes the LG 65 look an unbeatable price at only 2.7k.............will the OLED drop in price next April ? yes so i think i'll wait till then.
But for anyone after something right now i'd go for the LG because it's a no brainer

I was talking about the Panasonic ez952, which I speculated was what HummuH1 had seen, which is 2K not the ez1002 at 4.5K which I think you referred to ?- lets keep in budget

Was exactly that mate, cracking looking set and from what I saw, albeit briefly and from a single 4k source, looked a bit nicer than the LG B7.

At this point and after reading some reviews, I'm tempted to spend an extra £200 or so on the Panasonic.
