Sad to hear any reasonably good manager resigning or getting sacked with no real justification.

If I was Harry Redknapp I'd be very hesitant to take the job. He's doing a fantastic job with Tottenham and I doubt England are going to shock anyone in the Euros. Staying with Tottenham and hopefully having another decent run at the Champions League surely must be more appealing?

Hiddink is much better choice. But he's not English and apparently that's important for some reason.

Ahh good. Personally, i think it needs to be an englishman, but there arent any qualified enough who have a spare 2 years on their hands and who would want to lose their club job to take it on,

You cant take on mike Basset, sorry i mean 'Edknapp, he does well through transfer dealings im not sure how great a tactician etc he really is.

I will have to revert to not being english for a bit if Redknapp *spits on the floor* gets the job!

I say Stewart Pearce or Shearer should take a punt at it. Pearce will at least know some of the lads that have played in the younger categories and shouldn't be afraid of casting off the dead wood of the team (Terry, Ferdinand, that rubbish right back and so on) to give some decent players a bash (admittedly I just want to send out jones and cahill at cb and put walker right back). More importantly who ever it is must take AOC (maybe even leave theo behind)

And more importantly than that be amusing, either by not costing a lot and being a clown, or by not costing a lot and being worryingly good. Haven't seen option 2 and england for a while

Lol I just heard :p

I want O'Neil but I would have 'Arry despite hating him just do its knackers Spurs :D

To be honest though I am beyond caring, England has replaced the Toon as the biggest joke going in Ebglish football, complete farce. At least if 'Arry got the job the media might lay off a bit because they always have their tongues up his behind.

I love all this talk about him running the camp too strictly and upsetting the players. This was one of the things everyone cried out for after competition after competition being more about the wag tarts than the matches.

People are deluded if they think we can win a major tournament without a major re-think in our league, from fixtures to friendlies and clubs releasing players. The yanks will win the world cup before we ever do again. I've been saying that since 94.

Harry would be frankly nuts to take the job in anyway except part time. The best international manager in the world can't sort this mess out because the rot runs deeper than just the team in how we approach international football.

I feel quite sorry for Capello. The World Cup group stages were certainly not plain sailing, however I still feel our tournament hinged on a refereeing error and who knows what might have happened if that had gone our way. He seemed methodical in his approach, and I felt we had a decent couple of years since the WC - barring the odd bore draw, but a lot of good national teams have off days every now and then.

You can't operate in a job properly if you feel you're being undermined by your management and I feel he made the right decision in sticking with his principles and resigning.

Ideally I'd like to see Hiddink take over for the Euros, with Redknapp assuming full controls thereafter.

What, every other league deals with internationals in the same way. Some leagues have a winter break, MOST of the top players at the top teams play in games anyway. Barcelona went off to the club world cup and many of the Spanish national side players had games. That national side has players who routinely get to the champions league final, go the distance in all cups and play a long summer tournament for years on end.

So no, a winter break is in no way required. The ONLY difference with Germany/Spain of late is both quality of player and choosing a system that suits that squad. Is Klose doing brilliantly in the league in terms of goals and assists, no, but his actual football and link up play was brilliant, and so he went to the world cup and played brilliantly for Germany.

We've had crap managers picking crap teams for over a decade, its as simple as that.

Johnson, Ledley King, Walcott, Heskey, Barry and Gerrard shouldn't be in the team, Gerrard can't stick in a position, isn't nearly good enough defensively to play in the middle for me and there are just better options FOR THE TEAM.

As someone put it the other day, in the last world cup losing badly to Germany and about to go out what did Capello do, what was his master plan..... seriously........ it was bring Heskey on?

TO blame the league or anyone but the manager when in the World cup finals with 20 minutes to go bringing on Heskey. it was Capello, and no one else's choice to pick Heskey, it was his, and no one else's choice to bring on Heskey against the 2nd best team in the competition. Sorry but, the buck stops with Capello and no one else. Players underperform, some overperform, its the managers job to pick the players who will perform, he failed, miserably.

Forced into certain decisions due to injury, with Wilshire/Parker/Young England have looked dramatically better AS A TEAM in the past year. Parker/Young could have been first team his entire time in charge, and both should have been.

It's rather like Wenger getting "credit" for playing Ox, when he was the last choice after everyone else was injured, the actual question is why wasn't he playing him before there was no other choice.

Capello sucked, end of.

1. Harry Redknapp is a tax evading crook, even if he was found not guilty due to the HMRC's incompetence. Therefore he should not be England manager. We're very good at standing up to racist issues but at the same time saying it's fine for managers to feign stupidity in paying income tax.

2. Why is Alan Shearer not in the poll?

Even as a spurs supporter I’d say that Harry is the man for the job. I'd be lying if i said I wouldn't be upset but I applaud what he has done for us. I’ve accepted this over the last year. Two transfer windows with no big signings is a sure sign that the Spurs board didn’t want to commit to new players with a potential new manager coming in.

He has this unprecedented mutual respect from those that work around him, including the players and personally, I think this is the basis of his success at Spurs. He takes the time to listens, understands and takes the time to support his players.

I’ve always been sceptical about the England Management role. I still can’t see why the job can’t be dual run with club management. They don’t train together frequently enough to call it a full time job and the Manager would still get to see the players on a week-in; week-out basis. The meeting/training sessions they do are nothing PR/photo shot exercises for the media anyway.

As for Spurs, this only leaves a problem for Levy. He now has a tough decision in not just finding a new manager, but whether he wants to take the club to the next level. Harry did a fantastic job when we were on the brink but if Levy wants to build on this and make a serious bid for the premiership, then he must find a manager with both league and CL winning experience. For this, he must review his strict wage policy. If done correctly, then there is no reason why any player should want to leave. Ancelloti is the man for me.. shame he’s tied up.

1 Agreed.

2 Because he's thick as pig ****.

Can someone check the odds on William Hill or something of Harry Redknapp being next England manager for me please? I can't get on gambling sites at work...

Checked last night when the news came through and it was @ 1.43, considered putting a decent amount of money on it but bottled it. :p
