Capital One Cup Quarter-Final ** Spoilers ** [16th -17th December 2014]

Damnit Andre...

Schurrle special there. Drogba completely unmarked, but instead he tries to shoot through two defenders. I like him, but he needs to be less selfish.

I think it's about time refs started doing something about blatant obstruction from defenders.

Red card may seem harsh, but the defender has no intention of doing anything but stopping Remy getting to the ball ...

Some people say 'Great defending' but it's a foul in my eyes. It's like when a ball is going out of play, and a defender just stands there holding off a player, quite how that isn't pulled up more often is beyond me, it's the very definition of obstruction.

It was a foul in my eyes as well, but a red seems harsh. If the keeper was a few yards back then it'd be a red for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity, but the keeper was always going to get the ball before Remy. Yellow at worst IMO.

The first action of that sequence sees Remy tugging on Buxton's shoulder. If the attacker is going to pull the defender back, the defender should have a right to hold his ground.

Agreed, a red does seem harsh.

I think it was more about the later action - when Remy got ahead and Buxton put his arms around him to hold him back.

I guess the logic is that, if he hadn't done the drag back, Remy would have got to the ball before it entered the box, and the keeper wouldn;t have been able to handle it.

For me, the first part of the sequence where Buxton was protecting the ball was fine. The foul came at the end of it.

Not denying the arm across the chest, that certainly wasn't fair defending. But if the defender gets fouled first then it shouldn't have got to the red card stage. Also, looked as if Grant would have gotten to the ball a fair bit before Remy.

Just seemed a bit of an unnecessary red card, and ruined an exciting final 20 mins.

Haven't seen us so bad in ages, Sheffield fully deserve the win, we don't look like scoring in a million years and Forster looks iffy.

Loads injured and suspended for Everton too.

Like a reserve Newcastle.

Boooooooo. (Although Sheffield @ 7.4 was too tempting to miss out on, softens the blow).
