Car insurance

If you crash it will probably cost your insurers a LOT more than £1250. Start with £5k odd for each whiplash claim. If someone gets seriously injured the cost might run into millions in damages. That is why costs for young men are so high: not because they prang, but because they take others with them when they do.

M

totally agree. but my comment was aimed at the one above about making young ones pay if they have a claim.
that £750 compusary excess might not exist in an over 25 policy. hell with the difference adding a £500 excess makes to mines it pretty much not worth it so it stays at the default £250.
so if i was to have an at fault claim now i would still be a grand better off than i would have been at 19.
i also wouldnt be surprised if the £750 excess for under 21s has went up more in the last 7 years.

Gayle - for once its not this country's fault, well other than they wont get the **** out of europe, this has came from those sitting in brussels think how else they can screw the other countries for more money

ok, how about this for a moan coming from a little boy who is just started to learn how to drive.

ok, here is a quote for a Renault cleo fully comp. £2700!

right, and i just did the SAME search but ONLY changed to a female.

the quote i got back was £800, what i can i say.........oh for **** sake.

cleo is 7 years old, 1 owner, no damage, 1.2L petrol, 3 door.

what has the world come to, i wasn't that bothered when i was younger but now im at the age i can drive, its just crazy.

aparently the goverment is going to even it out a little, but all i can say to that Mr cameron, is.....pfff....you posh ********! and you girls are lucky sods.

Please fully star swearwords.

Sex change, probably get you money for the operation back over the course of 4 years insurance premiums, its the only way, you know it makes sense.

Mods could you be a little more lenient it's just a swear word like you don't ever say them. Maybe a warning instead of a suspension for the OP?

It's not difficult to hit the star key a few times is it? If you have an issue with this then please email one of us.

LOL at the OP being suspended already. If he can't exercise control over his mouth, how is he going to exercise control over his car? This is why the premiums are high :p

even though this is in jest, it is totally true. immaturity leads to accidents.

moreover. coming onto a motoring forum to preach at car enthusiasts about the cost of motor insurance?

news flash: WE KNOW

im guessing 99% of posters in this section are male. we all had to do it.
if you want to play the game you need to pay the price. get the first year out of the way and suck it up.

coming on here and complaining about it is not going to achieve anything.
and read the forum rules, they apply to everyone

Still there is good news for the fella, i just paid 370 quid fully comp for an XKR outside of my multi car policy so our man can draw strength from the fact that in 27 years, he too will be getting cheap insurance :D

Get yourself into a Clio club that offers insurance discounts to members. I do that on my Evo and it's quite a bit different.......... your age will play a part no matter where you go though.

I found when I was 21 my insurance dropped nearly 1/3, then when I was 30 it dropped 1/3 again. Suck it up for a while mate but it will come down.

Unfortunatley you just have to put up with it 'till you're 25.
The insurance on my Mazda RX8 went from £1100 @ 24 years old to £800 @ 25.

Don't forget the usual tricks:
  • Get an Admiral Multicar policy with your parents.
  • Add an older driver (parent/guardian/whatevs) as a named driver.
  • Don't crash.

Insurance is very random. Was getting quotes of £760 for a 1.7 Puma (waits for bumder comments) on the usual comparison websites with elephant/admiral. For some reason Those no longer show up when entering the same details anymore (not sure if they only allow a certain amount a week or something - was looking at quite a few cars and job changing soon hopefully so I was spamming quotes for a week). Cant get on their website as it asks for a password (no password retrieval) which I was never given. Anyway looking at just about every other insurer from Flux, LV etc to no name random insurers and the min for everyone else is around 2.5k. Bit of a jump. Do giggle at on street being cheaper than driveway parking though.

The Puma was quite expensive to insure for me as well. The 3 series after was a fair bit cheaper, even taking a bit into account for being a year older etc.

Its just suprising that 1 (essentially) insurer will do it for 760 (happy with that) although would like to be able to log into their site.... while the rest wont touch it. Parents added, 4 years no claims, area isnt high crime rate (anymore..), job is safe, low anual milage etc etc. Gits.

have you been told by the insurance company that there isnt a high crime rate ? just because people dont see the crime/claims happening, doesnt mean its not going on.

To be honest im purely going on the police website where you can view crime figures and types in your area. But 1 insurer agrees and the rest seem to think im a stunt driver living amongst thieves or something. Possibly worth giving them a ring but I know im able to get a decent price already. Just seems a bit off.

I don't agree with how prohibitive it is for a new, teenage driver but I understand the reasons.

How about a system like this - you pay say £2500 a year insurance as a newly qualified driver but you get some of it back if you don't crash? That way it rewards careful driving and those who are good drivers don't have to pay as much as those who aren't?

doesnt work if you hit and run :) not everyone is honest with the insurance companies.
